Twenty-three points from junior star Kenton Roberts weren’t enough to keep Estill from falling to Paris in the first round of the Jessamine Invitational.
In the Monday night game at Nicholasville, the teams played on even terms, closing the first half tied at 29.
The Engineers were to take on Menifee County in the second round of the tourney on Tuesday evening, then close out the 2009 portion of their schedule against East Jessamine on Wednesday at 11:45 a.m.
Joining Roberts in the scoring column were Case with 11, Abernathy 8; Williams 7; Berryman 6; Evans and Morris, 4 each.
Coach Lawrence Tiller’s Engineers will return to action on January 10 by hosting a Riverside Christian team that will bring a 1-6 mark into town.
Estill and Riverside are two of five 14th Region teams with only a single victory so far; the others being Jenkins, Leslie County. and Owsley County.
Three teams, Knott County Central, Perry County Central and Breathitt County, have unblemished records.
