Citizen Voice and Times Editor Lisa Bicknell was recognized in January at the Kentucky Press Association awards banquet in Louisville with some ‘Excellence in Kentucky Newspapers’ awards.
Her winning entries in the Weekly Class 2 division of the contest include: 1st Place for Best Headline; 1st place for Breaking News Picture; and 3rd place for feature story “Sand Hill veterans reflect on war days” about neighbors Jerry Eltzroth and Charles Begley. (Eltzroth has since become a frequent contributor to the paper.)
Bicknell also received an honorable mention for the feature story ‘Actions of hometown hero finally come to light’ (about Special Forces veteran William Williams and his sister Leah Williams, also a veteran, but with the US Air Force).
“It is an honor to be recognized among my newspaper peers for my work,” said Bicknell, who began working part-time for the CV&T as a columnist and feature writer in January of 2011 and stepped into the role of editor in September 2013.
