Nellie Kissick, 86
Nellie Burchett Kissick, 86, Spout Springs Road, Irvine, widow of Edward Kissick, died Tuesday Nov. 17 at the Compassionate Care Center, Richmond after a short illness. She was born July 17, 1923 in Lewis County, a daughter of the late Coy and Ruby Dyer Burchett. She was a member of the Irvine United Methodist Church and retired owner of Nellie’s Fabric Shop. She was also co-owner, along with her late husband, of Home Furniture. She was also preceded in death by her daughter, Diana Kissick Henry.
Survivors include three sons and daughters-in-law, George and Ann Kissick, Roger and Debbie Kissick, both of Irvine and Kim and Debbie Kissick of Lexington; two brothers, Bill and Edgar Burchett both of Olive Hill; five grandchildren, Kyle Kissick, Elizabeth Walling, Ryan Henry, Clay and Sam Kissick; three great-grandchildren, Cole and Eric Kissick and Blair Walling.
Services were Saturday at the Lewis Funeral Home with Rev. Don Hatton officiating. Burial was at Sunset Memorial Gardens.
Pallbearers were Ryan Henry, Kyle, Clay and Sam Kissick, Ben Walling, Duff Wolfinbarger and John Nutter.
Wayne Harris, 45
Wayne Harris, 45, Barnes Mountain Road, Irvine, died Monday, Nov. 16, 2009 at the Marcum & Wallace Memorial Hospital after a sudden illness. He was born Aug. 7, 1964 in Indiana, the son of Troy Harris and Maybel Lynch Lee. He was a meat cutter for Save-a-Lot Grocery. He lived in Estill County most of his life and was a member of the Easter Valley Baptist Church.
Survivors in addition to his parents are his wife, Teresa Lynn McKinney Harris; four sons, Zachary Nathaniel Harris of Richmond, McKinley Troy Harris, Mckalyn Charles Harris, both at home, Jeffery Shannon Gross of Irvine; a sister Donna Reinholt and husband Steve of Indiana; one grandfather, Arnold Harris of Irvine; one step-mother, Cletta Harris of Irvine; three step sisters, Charlene Brisman and Charlotte Ashcraft, both of Ohio, Roxie McKinney of Estill County; two step-brothers, Earl Ashcraft, Rex Puckett both of Ohio; a grandson, Leighton Ridge Gross; a niece, Bridgette Harris.
Funeral services were Wednesday (Nov. 18, 2009) at the New Beginning Fellowship Church by Bro. Delvin Reece, Bro. Alex Miller, and Sam Miller with burial at the Jesse Harris Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Chad Canter, Matt Canter, Doug Pinnion, Keith Dennis, Joey Arvin, Earl Ashcraft, Todd Reece, and Shawn Chaney. Honorary Pallbearers were his sons and his Save-a-Lot family.
June Stevens, 61
June “Lug” Stevens, 61, Doe Creek Road, Irvine died Monday, Nov. 16, 2009, at the Pattie A. Clay Regional Medical Center after a short illness. He was born June 2, 1948 in Estill County and was the son of the late Lander W. and Evelyn McKinney Stevens. He was an employee of the VA Medical Center and had lived in Estill County all of his life. He was a United States Marine Corps veteran of the Vietnam War and was retired from the National Guard.
Survivors include his wife, Shirley Margaret Osborne Stevens; a daughter, Sheila Renee Oakley and husband, Anthony of Winchester; two sisters, Judy Gay Stevens, Louise Bowles, both of Estill County; a brother Steve W. Stevens of Beattyville; two uncles, Turner McKinney and Ray McKinney; two aunts, Virgie Long and Garnett Christopher; two sisters-in-law, Mattie Brinegar and Virgie McIntosh; nieces, Stacy Begley, Julie Ann Bowles, Amy Bingham and Kimberly Stevens; nephews, Nicky Dale Stevens and Matthew Stevens; special friend, Bill Kelly.
Funeral services were conducted Friday, Nov. 20, at 1 p.m. at the Warren F. Toler Funeral Home Chapel by Rev. Lindsey Cornett. Burial was at the Sparks Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Matthew Stevens, Archie Angel, Glen Hudson, William Jackson, Preston Relford, Nick Stevens. Honorary pallbearers were Lenny Huff, John Kincaid, Jeff Brinegar, Jerry Brinegar.
Janet Centers, 65
Janet Carroll Stepp Centers, 65, formerly of Martin County, died Monday, Nov. 23, 2009 in Irvine. Born April 30, 1944 in Martin County, she was the daughter of the late Martin and Ruby Kirk Step Stepp.
Survivors include one son, John Martin Leslie of Versailles; one daughter, Andrea Leslie Barnes of Irvine; two brothers, Harold Stepp of Inez and James Stepp of Nashville; one sister, Joyce Stucki of Nashville; three great aunts, Geneva Pack, Ruth Reed and Madge Johnson.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday, Nov. 27, 2009 in the chapel of the Phelps & Son Funeral Home, Inez, with Dave Robirds officiating. There will be no visitation.
