Helen Margaret Long, 96
Helen Margaret Long, 96, a resident of the Irvine Health & Rehabilitation Center, died Tuesday, July 23, 2013, at the center. She was born Sept. 22, 1916 in Estill County and was the daughter of the late Ike and Lottie Horn Neal. She was a member of the Ravenna Church of God where she had served as a Sunday School teacher and a member of the choir. She was a former employee of Winn’s Dry Cleaners and had lived in Estill County all her life. She was preceded in death by her husband, Shirley Long; a son, Billy Ray Rucker; two sisters, five brothers, a grandchild, Jason Rucker; and two great-grandchildren, Emily Setser and Joshua Montgomery.
Survivors include a daughter, Peggy Noe of Cincinnati, Ohio; five sons, Everett “Sonny” Rucker and wife, Vicki of Irvine, Robert Rucker of Irvine, Glen Long and wife, Carol of Batesville, Ind., James Edmond Long and wife, Pat of Irvine and Michael Ray Long and wife, Delois of Irvine; 17 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; and several great-great grandchildren.
Funeral services were conducted Friday, July 26, 2013, at the Warren F. Toler Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Willie Gordon officiating. Burial was at the West Irvine Cemetery. Pallbearers were Mike Long, Robert Rucker, Sonny Rucker, Edwin Long, Zack Harris, Anthony Rucker and Chris Long. Honorary pallbearers were Glen Long, Sr., Glen Long, Jr., Gary Long, Joel Long, Taylor Sewell, Tyler Sewell, Logan Russell, Ryan Leach and Jared Leach.
Achie F. Walling, 91
Achie F. Walling, 91, of Hamilton, Ohio, died Monday, July 22, 2013, at his home following a sudden illness. He was born Jan. 19, 1922, in Estill County and was the son of the late James S. and Rhoda Abner Walling. He was a Union Carpenter and had lived in Ohio most of his life. He was a member of the Baptist Church and was a United States Army Veteran of World War II. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mabel Gilbert Walling; two sisters, Louise Barnett and Betty Walling; and two brothers, James Ray Walling and John Walling.
Survivors include a sister, Ruth M. Stone of Estill County; and a brother, Robert Walling of Columbus, Ohio.
Funeral services were conducted Thursday, July 25, 2013, at the Warren F. Toler Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Forrest Turpin officiating. Burial was at the South Irvine Cemetery. Pallbearers were Gary Reed, Bobby Walling, Robert Walling and Ray Walling.
Mattie Mae Richardson, 83
Mattie Mae Samples Richardson, 83, of Dawes Road in Irvine, died Monday, July 22, 2013, at Baptist Health of Lexington following short illness. She was born Aug. 30, 1929, in Lee County and was a daughter of the late George Washington and Daisy Laura Kincaid Samples. She was a homemaker and had lived in Estill County most of her life. She was preceded in death by her husband, Leonard Richardson; her parents; two sisters, Georgia Imogene Samples and Jessie Ailene Lovins; and a brother, Harold Edward Samples.
Survivors include three daughters, Sharron Kaye Marble of Florida, Nikki Leah Richardson and partner, Cathi Johnson of Scott County and Lisa Michelle Horn and husband, Dwight of Estill County; four sisters, Reva Golden Richardson of Berea, Juanita Irene Wilson of Ohio and Margaret Evelyn Rawlins of Estill County; three brothers, Hugh Eugene “Shine” Samples of Estill County, Howard Landon Samples of Ohio and Johnathon Walter Samples of Arizona; seven grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and two great-great grandchildren.
Funeral services were conducted Thursday, July 25, 2013, at the Warren F. Toler Funeral Home Chapel by Bro. Kevin Turpin. Burial was at the Sunset Memorial Gardens. Pallbearers were Nicholas Ricahrdson, Richard Horn, Jeff Brinegar, Josh Walters, James Ferguson and Charlie Skinner.
Barbara Fielder, 71
Barbara Fielder, 71, of Sandhill Road in Irvine, died Sunday, July 21, 2013, at the University of Kentucky Medical Center after a long illness. She was born June 6, 1942, in Estill County and was the daughter of the late Robert and Elsie Smithers Fielder. She was a retired employee of Eastern Kentucky University and a member of the Sandhill Christian Church. She has lived in Estill County all of her life. She was preceded in death by two sisters, Blondena Billings and Mavis Tate; and a brother, Donald Fielder.
Survivors include a daughter, Jennifer Lee Fielder of Irvine; a sister, Loraine Hendrix and husband, Paul of Ashland; three brothers, Tom Fielder and wife, Yvonne of Lexington, Ed Fielder and wife, Kay of Mt. Vernon and Gene Fielder and wife, Roxanne of Ashland; her cats, Pepper and Willow; and special nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were conducted Wednesday, July 24, 2013, at the Sandhill Christian Church with Bro. Matthew Vaught officiating. Burial was at the Sandhill Christian Church Cemetery. Pallbearers were Michael Berry, Craig Berry, Jason Stacy, Kenneth Billings, Eddie Fielder and Jack Walling. Honorary pallbearers were Elizabeth Stacy and Toni Schmidt.
Gerry Wayne Puckett, 53
Gerry Wayne Puckett, 53, of Old Fox Road in Irvine, died Wednesday, July 24, 2013, at his home following a long illness. He was born May 18, 1960 in Estill County and was the son of the late Roy and Alma Hall Puckett. He was a roofer and attended the Full Gospel Evangelistic Ministry. He was a former member of the National Guard. He had lived in Estill County all of his life. He was preceded in death by two daughters, Linda Michelle and Patricia Gail Puckett; two sisters, Linda Puckett and Tootsie Berryman; and four brothers, Alvin, Omer, Donald and Bobby Puckett.
Survivors include his wife, Patricia Tipton Puckett; a daughter, Brittany Faye Puckett of Estill County; a son, Gerry “J.R.” Wayne Puckett, Jr. and wife, Amanda of Estill County; two sisters, Ann Lewis and Brenda Hawkins, both of Estill County; four brothers, Johnny Puckett, David Puckett, Ronnie Puckett and William Puckett, all of Estill County; and a grandchild, Haley Jo Puckett.
Private services were held Friday, July 26, 2013, at the Puckett Cemetery with Bro. Larry Collins officiating. Warren F. Toler Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements. Pallbearers were David Puckett, William Puckett, James Tipton, Chris Tipton, David Hatton and Charlie Rawlins.
Carol Perkins, 54
Carol Perkins, 54, of Old Fox Road in Irvine, wife of John Perkins, died Saturday, July 27, 2013, at her residence. She was a former factory employee and member of The Body of Christ Ministries.
Survivors include her parents, Bergin Jr. and Gladys Tuttle of Irvine; her husband, John Perkins of Irvine; a son, Jerry Conrad Jr. (Ruthie) of Irvine; two brothers, Greg Tuttle and Bergin Tuttle III, both of Irvine.
Funeral services were conducted Tuesday, July 30, 2013, at the Grayson Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Bill Wesley officiating. Burial was at the Woods Cemetery in Irvine. Grayson Funeral Home was in charge of services.
James A. Dickerson, 78
James A. Dickerson, 78, husband of the late Lela Joyce “Jane” Lynch of 32 years, died Friday. He was a native of Estill County, one of 11 children of the late Roy and Alphie Bailey Dickerson. He was a retired farmer. He was preceded in death by his beloved children, Ruth Ann and Travis Mitchell.
Survivors include five daughters, Ruby (Kenneth) Butler, Aileen (John D.) Wilcox, Mary Jane (Mike) Hensley, Betty Gail Dickerson and Debbie Sue Dickerson Pryor; 10 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
Graveside services were conducted Monday, July 29, 2013, at the Lynch/Dickerson Family Cemetery on Cobb Hill with Bro. Barnett officiating. Memorials may be made by doing a kind deed for someone in need. Pallbearers were his sons-in-law, grandchildren, nephews and friends.
