Norman Hurley, 65
Norman Gene Hurley, 65, 1577 Frames Branch Road, husband of Wilma Sue Goodwin Hurley, died Thursday, Oct. 22, 2009 at his home. He was born May 19, 1944 in Irvine to the late Jimmy and Sue Ellen Marcum Hurley.
Survivors include his wife, Wilma Hurley of Clay City; a son, Glendon Darrell and wife, Lynn Hurley of Clay City; a daughter, Lisa Jo and husband Sandy Barnes of Irvine; brothers, Arnold and Chester Hurley, both of Irvine; a sister, Lucille Mayfra of Irvine; grandchildren, Darla Sue Hurley, Glendon Darrell Hurley Jr., and Savanna Faye Barnes.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother Archie Hurley; and a sister, America Hurley.
Funeral services were held Sunday, Oct. 25 at 2 p.m. at the Wells Clay City Chapel by Rev. Paul and Beverly Arvin with burial at Goodwin Cemetery, Clay City.
Family and friends served as pallbearers.
Rodney Drake, 62
Rodney Lee Drake, 62, Dry Branch Road, Irvine, died Tuesday, Oct. 27, 2009 at Pattie A. Clay Regional Medical Center after a long illness. He was born Feb. 27, 1947 in Lee County, the son of the late Josephine Drake Mitchell. He was a retired employee of South East Coal Company and had lived in Estill County most of his life.
Survivors include his son, Chad Everett Drake of Irvine; and two grandchildren, Ashlie Cheyeanne Drake and Jacob Nicholas Lee Drake.
Memorial services were conducted Friday, Oct. 20 at 11 a.m. at the Warren F. Toler Funeral Home Chapel by Bro. Franklin Drake.
Kathaleen Samples, 90
Kathaleen LeMaster Samples, 90, Highway 52, West Irvine, died Wednesday, Oct. 28, 2009 at Marcum & Wallace Memorial Hospital after a short illness. She was born Sept. 28, 1919 in Lee County, the daughter of the late Wince and Gracie Daugherty LeMaster. She was a homemaker and attended the Faith Baptist Church. She had lived in Lee County all of her life. She was preceded in death by her husband, Dewey Samples; one son, Dewey Samples Jr.; five sisters, Gladys Walters, Drucilla Napier, Elizabeth LeMaster, Grace LeMaster and Audrey Tipton; three brothers, Oakley, Robert and Landis LeMaster; one grandson, Shawn C. Samples; and one great-grandchild.
Survivors include three daughters, Genevieve Rison and Mary Grace Stamper, both of Irvine, and Wilma McIntosh of Beattyville; Charles Leon Samples and Benny Samples, both of Irvine, Paul Edwin Samples Sr. of Crystal and Bobby Lynn Samples of Richmond; four sisters, Desta Hughes of Michigan, Mayda Rogers of Erlanger, Lena Rogers of Crystal and Wanda Watkins of Prestonsburg; one brother, Francis LeMaster of Ohio; 21 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were conducted Saturday, Oct. 31, at 1 p.m. at the Warren F. Toler Funeral Home Chapel by Bro. Todd Blevins and Bro. Paul Hubbs with burial at the Samples Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Greg McIntosh, Paul Samples Jr., Tim Rison, Dewey Rison, Stanley Rison, Joey Rison, Shane Stamper, Jason Samples, Justin Samples, Brian Samples and Jamie Samples.
Elmer Riddell Jr., 60
Elmer Riddell Jr., 60, Stacy Lane, Irvine, died Thursday, Oct. 29, 2009 at Central Baptist Hospital after a short illness. He ws born Nov. 6, 1948 in Estill County, the son of Sarah Angline Perry Riddell and the late Elmer Riddell Sr. He was a veteran of the United States Army and had lived in Estill County all of his life. He was preceded in death by one sister, Doris Marie Riddell; and one brother, Danny Dale Riddell.
Survivors include his mother, Sarah Angline Perry Riddell of Lexington; one sister, Laura Johnson of Nicholasville; seven brothers, Earl Douglas Riddell and David Wayne Riddell, both of Estill County, Tony Marshall Riddell, Roger Allen Riddell and James Benny Riddell, all of Nicholasville, Bobby J. Riddell of Monterey, and Kirt Douglas Riddell of Lexington.
Funeral services were conducted at 11 a.m. Monday, Nov. 2 at the Pea Ridge Holiness Church by Bro. Jason Riddell with burial at the Pea Ridge Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Earl Douglas Riddell Jr., Tom Riddell, Andy Riddell, Benji Riddell, Tim Johnson, Derek Grace and Danny Holliman.
