Community Memorial Service
The annual Community Memorial Service will be held Nov. 9 at 7 p.m. at First Christian Church, Main Street, Irvine. Anyone who has lost loved ones in the past year are welcome to attend, their names will be called and recognized. Everyone is welcome.
American Legion Post 79
The American Legion Post 79 will have dinner on Nov. 14 at 6 p.m. A service to honor departed veterans will be at 5 p.m. at the American Legion Post.
Senior Center Yard Sale
The Estill County Senior Citizen Center on Stacy Lane is having a yard sale Nov. 12 and Nov. 13 to raise money to help support the many programs they have for seniors in Estill County.
Estill County Retired Teachers will meet Tuesday, Nov. 10 at 6 p.m. Those planning on eating may do so between 5 and 6 p.m. The speaker will be Bob Dundon from Dundon Press. His topic will be on mentoring. Everyone is invited to attend.
Winchester GTE/Sylvania/Osram/UAW retirees will gather for their monthly meeting at the Union Hall on Bloomfield Road at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, November 10. Following the business meeting, the retirees and guests will travel to Clay City for lunch at Kathy’s.
The Estill County Historical and Genealogical Society Christmas meeting will be held on Tuesday, Dec. 1 at the Estill County Historical and Genealogical Society’s Research Center and Museum at 6 p.m. Please bring a covered dish. There will be a silent auction.
The Appalachian Dulcimer Club is offering free lessons on Fridays at 5 p.m. at the Estill County Public Library. The only requirement is to bring your own dulcimer.
3rd Annual Mitchell Bedford Memorial Chess Tournament hosted by the Winchester/Clark Co. Parks & Recreation Chess Club
Open division: registration fee of $12 ($20 after 11/12) with prizes of 60 percent to 1st, 20 percent to 2nd, 10 percent to top U1300. The Kentucky Blood Center will have a blood drive Saturday, Nov. 7 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the fellowship hall at First Christian Church, 270 Main Street, Irvine. Those wanting to donate blood can call 1-800-775-2522 or visit www.kybloodcenter.org for blood drive and donor center details.
Light Up Rivertown
On Saturday, Nov. 21, the Estill County FBLA will host their 10th annual Light up Rivertown. This year’s activities include live entertainment, a Christmas craft fair, horse drawn carriage ride, and many other events. The craft fair will start at 10 a.m. Booths are still open to anyone who wants to display their crafts. Call Ms. Witt, 723-3537 during the school day. The carriage ride is free with a non-perishable food donation to Estill County Food Bank. The Estill/Powell counties Kentucky ASAP (Agency on Substance Abuse Policy) Board will be providing a series of five parenting classes for free. Leaders will use the evidence-based curriculum, Guiding Good Choices, geared for parents and caregivers of children ages 9-14 years of age. Classes will be held every Tuesday at the Ravenna Church of the Nazarene from 6:30-8 p.m. through Nov. 23. The Estill County Community Food Bank needs to stock the shelves of the pantry. A collection container will be located in the Extension Office and other places where donations of non-perishable items (canned, boxed foods, etc.) may be dropped off. Please help support this worthy program to help the less fortunate.
Mommie and Me
Mommie and Me Storytime groups will be every Wednesday at 10 a.m. and every Friday at 10:30 a.m. These groups are for children ages 2 through 5. Bring your child to the library for a story, an art activity, and a snack. Call 723-3030 for more information.
