The Estill County Historical and Genealogical Society and the Red River Historical Society and Museum will hold a joint meeting on Tuesday, Nov. 3 at Natural Bridge State Park. beginning at 7 p.m. Kentucky Chautauqua presents Capt. Robert K. Rambo [Ret.], who will portray Atta Kul Kulla, Cherokee Peach chief (1715-1780). He was called the most important Indian of his day. If you plan to attend the meeting at Natural Bridge on Nov. 3 and intend to eat there prior to the meeting, it is recommended you be there by or before 6 p.m. so that the program can begin at 7 p.m.
The Christmas meeting will be held on Tuesday, Dec. 1 at the Estill County Historical and Genealogical Society’s Research Center and Museum at 6 p.m. Please bring a covered dish. There will be a silent auction.
The Appalachian Dulcimer Club is offering free lessons on Fridays at 5 p.m. at the Estill County Public Library. The only requirement is to bring your own dulcimer.
Show Case of Artists
The 3rd annual Tri-County Showcase of Artists will be held Oct. 31 from 1-4 p.m. at the Estill County Golf Clubhouse, 1602 Kirkland Avenue. The event is sponsored by Marcum & Wallace Memorial Hospital, PADD, WestCare and Estill Arts Council.
Trick or Trot
The Estill County Rescue Squad presents the 5th annual Trick-R-Trot and family fun festival Oct. 31 from 6-8 p.m. at the Estill County High Shcool Track. There will be Trick-R-Treaging, concessions, inflatables and a petting zoo. For more information contact Chris Mitchell, 859-556-9444.
Light Up Rivertown
On Saturday, Nov. 21, the Estill County FBLA will host their 10th annual Light up Rivertown. This year’s activities include live entertainment, a Christmas craft fair, horse drawn carriage ride, and many other events. The Estill/Powell counties Kentucky ASAP (Agency on Substance Abuse Policy) Board will be providing a series of five parenting classes for free. Leaders will use the evidence-based curriculum, Guiding Good Choices, geared for parents and caregivers of children ages 9-14 years of age. Classes will be held every Tuesday at the Ravenna Church of the Nazarene from 6:30-8 p.m. beginning through Nov. 23. The Body Fitness Exercise classes led by Sister Loretta Spotila, RN will meet in the gym of the Central Office Building, 253 Main Street. These classes use gentle exercise and movement and are designed to build strength and flexibility. The Estill County Community Food Bank needs to stock the shelves of the pantry. A collection container will be located in the Extension Office and other places where donations of non-perishable items (canned, boxed foods, etc.) may be dropped off. Please help support this worthy program to help the less fortunate.
