Myths and Realities
Estill County Public Library welcomes Wildlife Specialist Thomas G. Barnes to the library on Wednesday, May 16, as he discusses Wildflower Myths and Realities. The discussion is free and will take place at the library on May 16 from 3 to 4 p.m.

The Garden Thyme Herb Club will be meeting on Thursday, May 17, at 7 p.m., at the New Beginning fellowship hall. Debbie Barnes, owner of Barnes Greenhouse will speak on Kentucky herbs and their uses. Everyone is invited to attend.

South Irvine P/K Center will be having their Site Base Decision Making meeting on Tuesday May, 15 at 5:30 p.m. in the gymnasium.
Siren Testing

Chapter Order
of the Eastern Star
The Irvine Chapter Order of The Eastern Star will present a Dinner Play, “Murder On The Oriental Rug,” Friday, May 25. This play is a hilarious comedy and will be held at the Irvine Masonic Lodge Hall located at 221 Broadway. A dinner will be served at 6 p.m., and the play will begin at 7 p.m. The cost is $10 for both dinner and show. Limited seating is available so call for tickets and reservations at 723-6310 or 723-2254.
4-H Summer Camp
Application deadline has been extended. This year’s theme is “Fantastic Summer Knights.” Estill County will be going to camp June 25-28. Any child that will be between ages 9-14 can attend 4-H Camp. Please stop by the Estill county Extension Office for an application. Remember that camp is filled on a first come-first served basis. Do not delay in getting your camp application in ASAP. Grief Support Group
Hospice Care Plus’s six-week Grief Support Series continues on Wednesday, May 16, from 6 to 7:30 p.m., at Trinity Church in Richmond. The session is free to attend and anyone who has experienced a loss is welcome. For more information, contact Hospice at 859-986-1500 or hospice@hospicecp.org. Registration is not required.

County Pageant
Starting on May 25, applications will be taken for Miss Estill County Open Beauty Contest – ages 16-21; Miss Estill County Open Teen Beauty Contest – ages 13-15; and Miss Estill County Pre-Teen Pageant (closed) – ages 8-12. Pageant dates: Miss Estill County Pageant & Miss Estill County Teen – Saturday, June 30 – Estill County Fair Grounds; and Miss Estill County Pre-Teen Pageant – Monday, July 2 – Estill County Fair Grounds. Estill County Prescription Drug Disposal Boxes
Drop off unused prescription drugs safely and securely at Irvine Police Department (101 Chestnut Street, Irvine) and Ravenna Police Department (620 Main Street, Ravenna). Drop off boxes available during regular weekday business hours at both locations. NO NEEDLES. Remove any personal information from bottles. Secure liquids in a Ziploc bag before drop off.
4-H Cooking Club
The 4-H Cooking Club will meet on Friday, May 11, at 4 p.m. at the extension office.

The 4-H Teen Club will hold their next meeting on Monday, May 14, at 12 noon at the extension office.
Spring 2012 Fish Sale
The Estill County Conservation District Spring Fish Sale for stocking or restocking farm ponds, will be Friday, May 18, in the conservation district parking lot located at 1505 Richmond Road, across from Bunt Gross Auto Sales, from 1:30 to 2 p.m. Order forms can be picked up at the conservation district office or to place an order by phone, call 723-5104. Payment for fish is on delivery.
4-H Entomology Workshop
An Entomology Workshop is scheduled for Thursday, May 17, at 6 p.m., at the extension office. In this workshop, youth will learn: What insects are and how they fit into the scientific classification system; How to make a killing jar to use when collecting insects; How to identify insects; How to collect, pin, label, display and exhibit different insects; and How to keep a project record. I Love America
There will be a special program to honor our veterans and current military personnel Sunday, May 20, at 3 p.m., at Calvary Baptist Church in Irvine. The program, “I Love America,” a patriotic cantata, will be to thank those who have served in the past and those who are currently serving in our military. Admission is free; voluntary donations will be accepted for Operation Homefront – KY. Everyone is invited to attend.

West Irvine Elementary will have an Awards Program on Friday, May 11. Fifth grade will be at 8:30 a.m., fourth grade at 10:40 a.m., third grade at 9:30 a.m., second grade at 12 noon, and first grade at 1:15 p.m.

The Estill County Health Department will be sponsoring a Spring Rabies Clinic on Saturday, May 12, from 9 a.m. – 3:30 p.m., at the Animal Clinic at 1995 Richmond Rd. in Irvine. 4-H Peddler Day
Estill County 4-H is having a peddler’s day at the Estill County Fairgrounds on Saturday, May 12 from 9 a.m. until 4 p.m. to raise money for local children to attend 4-H summer camp.They are inviting all vendors and people who have yard sales to participate. No food vendors please. 4-H will have food booths. There will be 10 foot by 10 foot spaces for rent for $10 each for all day. Spaces will be available both inside and outside and inside spaces will be on a first come first served basis. Stop by and pre-pay at the Estill County Extension office on Golden Court. Third Annual
‘Cars for a Cure’
The Relay For Life 3rd annual “Cars for a Cure” car show, will be held Saturday, May 19, in downtown Irvine. The care show is open to all vehicles. Entry fee is $20. Dash plaques and t-shirts to first 50 pre-registered entries (pre-registration fee is $15 due by May 1). Proceeds benefit Estill County Relay For Life. 2012 Relay For Life
Get your 2012 Relay For Life team registered today. Team registration is $100 each. There is no limit on the number of participants for each team. Kentucky Department of Veterans Affairs
A Veterans Benefits Field Representative will be at the National Guard Armory, 335 Cow Creek Road, Ravenna, on the first Thursday of each month, from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. There will be assistance filing for Federal and State veterans benefits. Irvine High School Reunion Weekend
The Irvine High School Reunion Weekend will kick off on Friday, June 15, with a golf scramble at the Estill County Golf Course. Contact Larry Shearer or Joedy Ohr if interested in participating. A few classes are planning their own individual class reunions on Friday evening. The main reunion will take place on Saturday evening, June 16, when all Irvine High School classes will join together at 6 p.m., at the old Irvine High School. The check-in process will take place in the gym. Food will be served throughout most of the evening at the Estill Springs Elementary School. The cost will be $20 per person if you register before May 31, and $25 after May 31.
