Site Base Council Nominations
South Irvine P/K Center will be accepting svite base council nominations for the 2012-2013 school year. You may make nominations at South Irvine P/K Center office April 19 – 26, from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. You may vote for the nominees at the site base council elections at South Irvine P/K Center May 7, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., May 8, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., and 5 to 8 p.m., and May 9 and 10, from 8:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. You may only vote if you are the parent/guardian of a kindergarten student at South Irvine P/K Center for the 2012-2013 school year.

Preschool Screenings

Estill County Schools preschool/Head Start registration for the 2012-2013 school year will be at the South Irvine P-K Center at 1000 South Irvine Drive Friday, April 27, Thursday, May 3 and Friday, May 4. Call Cindy Hensley, preschool coordinator at 723-3077 or Fay Reese, family service worker at 726-3078 to schedule a screening appointment.

90 Years of Service
The Irvine-Ravenna Kiwanis club is celebrating it’s 90th anniversary as a service organization doing good works for the betterment of the children of our community.  The party will be at Cedar Village on Thursday, April 19, at 6 p.m.  All former members are welcome to attend, please bring any old photos of club acitivites or old stories to share. Cake will be provided.

120 Eats: A Quest to Taste Kentucky’s Best
Each month, they will explore a few counties, starting in alphabetical order and working our way through all 120.  They need your suggestions on the most interesting and best tasting food in your county–whether it’s a farm product, fabulous restaurant or country kitchen classic. Blue Jean Friday
Marcum & Wallace Memorial Hospital and Citizens Guaranty Bank, challenge every Estill County business to participate in a community wide “Blue Jean Friday” April 27, in efforts to raise money for those affected by the recent Kentucky tornados. Businesses are encouraged to wear blue jeans to work in exchange for a donation to the “Friends of Estill County Tornado Recovery Fund.” All proceeds will be donated to the Morgan County ARH Hospital in West Liberty. Businesses can submit their donation at Citizens Guaranty Bank by Friday, May 4. For more information, contact Marcum & Wallace Memorial Hospital at 726-2168.

Historical and
Genealogical Society

The Estill County Historical and Genealogical Society will meet on Tuesday, May 1, at the Aldersgate at 6 p.m. The meal will be steak for $14.50 and chicken for $12.50. Please call Diane at 723-2636 or Flo at 726-0538, to let them know if you are attending. Reservations must be made by April 20.

Miss Mountain Mushroom
Festival Pageant

The Miss Mountain Mushroom Festival Pageant will be April 27, at 7:30 p.m., at the Estill County High School Auditorium. Age divisions are ages 4-5, ages 6-8, ages 9-11, ages 12-15 and ages 16-21. The age cut off is Nov. 1, 2011. Entry fee is $20 and is due no later than Thursday, April 26, by 4 p.m., at Irvine City Hall. Contestants must have a permanent residence in Estill County.

Festival Agate Hunt

The 22nd annual Mountain Mushroom Festival Agate Hunt will be April 24 – 26, from 9 a.m., to late afternoon. Hunters will meet at Estill County School System Central Office, 253 Main Street, Irvine. Reservations will be accepted on a first come, first serve basis.

The 22nd annual Mountain Mushroom Festival Bluegrass Gem and Mineral Show will be April 27 – 29, at Estill County School’s Central Office, 253 Main Street, Irvine. (Enter gym at back). Third Annual
‘Cars for a Cure’

The Relay For Life 3rd annual “Cars for a Cure” car show, will be held Saturday, May 19, in downtown Irvine. The care show is open to all vehicles. Entry fee is $20. Dash plaques and t-shirts to first 50 pre-registered entries (pre-registration fee is $15 due by May 1). Proceeds benefit Estill County Relay For Life. 2012 Relay For Life

Get your 2012 Relay For Life team registered today. Team registration is $100 each. There is no limit on the number of participants for each team. 4-H Summer Camp
It’s time to register for 4-H summer camp. This year’s theme is “Fantastic Summer Knights.” Estill County will be going to camp June 25-28. Any child that will be between ages 9-14 can attend 4-H Camp. Please stop by the Estill County Extension Office for an application. The deadline to register is April 16. Estill County Adult Education Center

The Estill County Adult Education Center is now offering free GED testing and National Career Readiness Certificate assessments for a savings of $60. For more information, call Mary Fields Skipper at 723-7323.

4-H Peddler Day

Estill County 4-H is having a peddler’s day at the Estill County Fairgrounds on Saturday, May 12 from 9 a.m. until 4 p.m.  to raise money for local children to attend 4-H summer camp.They are inviting all vendors and people who have yard sales to participate. No food vendors please. 4-H will have food booths. There will be 10 foot by 10 foot spaces for rent for $10 each for all day. Spaces will be available both inside and outside and inside spaces will be on a first come first served basis. Stop by and pre-pay at the Estill County Extension office on Golden Court. Movie Nights at Estill County Public Library

Estill County Public Library will start showing movies on the first and third Friday of each month starting at 6 p.m. Although admission is free,  ticket is required for entry. Mommie and Me Storytime

Mommie and Me Storytime for ages 2-5, will meet Wednesdays at 10 a.m., and Friday at 10:30 a.m. Come and bring your child or grandchild for a story, an art activity, and a snack.

Food Bank
The Estill County Community Food Bank needs to stock the shelves of the pantry. A collection container will be located in the extension office and other places where donations of non-perishable items (canned, boxed foods, etc.) may be dropped off. Please help support this worthy program to help the less fortunate.

Kentucky Department of Veterans Affairs
A Veterans Benefits Field Representative will be at the National Guard Armory, 335 Cow Creek Road, Ravenna, on the first Thursday of each month, from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. There will be assistance filing for Federal and State veterans benefits. Spring Rabies Clinic
The Estill County Health Department will be sponsoring a Spring Rabies Clinic on Saturday, May 12, from 9 a.m. – 3:30 p.m., at the Animal Clinic at 1995 Richmond Rd. in Irvine. ‘Child Abuse Awareness Program’

On Saturday, April 21, FCCLA, the Cabinet for Child and Family Services and Kentucky River Foothills will be holding a “Child Abuse Awareness Program,” in front of the Estill County Courthouse beginning at 11 a.m. The community is cordially invited to attend. Pastor Keith Sands of Calvary Baptist Church will be in attendance; special music by Jenny and Roy Siebeneicher and the key-note speaker for the day will be Assistant County Attorney Ms. Jenny Haymond. There will also be give-aways such as blue ribbons, bracelets and informational brochures.

Farmer’s Market Meeting

There will be a farmer’s market meeting at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, May 2 at the county extension office.  Vendors should attend for voucher training.  Those interested in becoming new vendors are encouraged to attend.  For further information, call 723- 7101 or 723-3402.

Dulcimer Club

The Appalachian Dulcimer Club meets every Friday at 6 p.m., at Irvine First Christian Church. Beginners and others who like to play are welcome.

Estill Springs Elementary SBDM Parent Nominations
Parent nominations to the Estill Springs Elementary School SBDM council will be accepted through April 20, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Forms may be picked up and dropped off at the Family Resource Center. SBDM voting for the 2012-2013 school year will be held Tuesday, May 1 and Thursday, May 3, from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m., and Wednesday, May 2, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.
