Some top notch police work by Kentucky State Police Trooper J. Felder along with Estill Deputy Sheriff Russell “Doc” Morris solved a stolen firearm case from 1997.
Felder cited Dillard E. Tipton, 69, of Spout Springs Road and charged him with receiving stolen property, firearm.
Felder’s report states that Morris recovered the firearm from Square Deal Pawn Shop on April 2 and discovered it had been stolen from Campbellsburg from a Kentucky State Police Trooper and entered into the National Crime Information Center.
When Felder contacted Tipton and read him his Miranda rights, Tipton stated he had the gun for three or four years and that he had bought it from his brother, Burton Tipton,  for $400.
Felder then contacted Burton Tipton by cell phone and after being Mirandized,  he told Felder he bought the gun from David Campbell several years ago for $500.
The investigation is continuing and Felder stated he will make contact with Campbell.
He also stated that Dillard Tipton was cited and not arrested due to his cooperation with Felder in this investigation.
He will appear in Estill District Court on April 18.
