Rhonda Smyth - Rhonda's Remarks

Sometimes kids just amaze me.

A feeling of amazement is exactly what I got when I went to Estill High last week to talk to Lt. Col. Patterson about the kids in the JRROTC program.

Those young men and women come from diverse backgrounds and possibly would not have gotten to know each other,  had that not come together in this program.

I don’t think I have ever stood in the middle of a bunch of kids who have as much respect for their leader, Col. Patterson or their fellow students as this bunch does.

They were polite and friendly to me and seemed anxious to talk to me about each other and the program.

They are just a great bunch of kids and I am proud of them. They represent Estill County well and are very blessed to have a man like Col. Patterson as a role model.

Look for great things in the future from this group of students.

It has been my privilege over the years to interact with a lot of students in all grade levels.

I have attended events in which Estill schools’ students were involved both here and elsewhere.

I can tell you that you won’t find any kids anywhere that are as well behaved and downright nice as ours are.

Whether it’s sports, band, cheerleading, clubs or any number of other activities in which students participate, ours are the best.

If March is any indication of the kind of weather we can expect all summer, then we are in for it.

Is this what they mean by “global warming?”
