Turf Professionals Training
If you are a commercial turf and lawn care professional or just interested in lawn care, Estill Extension Service will hold training on Monday, April 2, at 10 a.m., at the Estill County Extension Office, 76 Golden Court, Irvine. Topics to be covered are turf weeds, turf and ornamental insects, turf and ornamental diseases, and state regulations. A $10 fee will cover lunch and materials. Site Base Counsel Nominations
Estill County High School will be accepting Site Base Counsel Nominations for the 2012-2013 school year. You may make your nominations at Estill County High School Guidance Office from 8:30 a.m., until 4 p.m., April 9 thru April 13. You may vote for the nominees at the Site Base Counsel Elections at the Estill County High School Guidance Office from 8:30 a.m., until 4 p.m., April 30 thru May 4. You may nominate and vote only if you are the parent of a student that enrolled at Estill County High School for the 2012-2013 school year.
Spring Flowers
4-H Fundraiser
The 4-H Council will be taking orders for spring flowers until April 17. Prices are $12 for a hanging/combo baskets, and ferns. Patio pots are available in 11.5-inch size for $15, 14-inch for $20, and a 14-inch Geranium patio pot for $20. The Estill County Public Library has expanded its services with audiobooks, eBooks, music, and video, available to download from the library’s website. This new service, powered by OverDrive, is free for patrons with their library card. OverDrive is a leading full-service digital distributor of eBooks, audiobooks, music, and video. We deliver secure management, DRM protection, and download fulfillment services for hundreds of publishers and thousands of libraries, schools, and retailers serving millions of end users. OverDrive is based in Cleveland, Ohio.
Antiques and Collectible Show
The Estill County Chamber of Commerce Antiques and Collectible Show, which is held at Citizens Guaranty Bank during the Mountain Mushroom Festival, is now accepting applications and registration fees for booth rentals. Booth size is 10 X 10-feet and will be $30 ($40 after March 31) and table rental is $5 each. Application and booth payment is due to the Estill County Chamber of Commerce by March 31. The Mountain Mushroom Festival
Arts and craft booths are now available. Booth sizes and registration fees are: 10 X 20-foot with electric – $75; 10’ X 20’, non-electric – $60; 10’ X 10’ non-electric – $40. There will be a registration fee of $35 this year that will be returned to all booths at closing on Sunday. This is in addition to the booth rental fee. Rental forms can be picked up at the Irvine City Hall or printed from our website at www.mountainmushroomfestival.org. Third Annual
‘Cars for a Cure’
The Relay For Life 3rd annual “Cars for a Cure” car show, will be held Saturday, May 19, in downtown Irvine. The care show is open to all vehicles. Entry fee is $20. Dash plaques and t-shirts to first 50 pre-registered entries (pre-registration fee is $15 due by May 1). Proceeds benefit Estill County Relay For Life. 2012 Relay For Life
Get your 2012 Relay For Life team registered today. Team registration is $100 each. There is no limit on the number of participants for each team. The Estill County Historical and Genealogical Society
The Estill County Historical and Genealogical Society will meet on Tuesday, April 3, at the Estill Historical and Research Museum at 6 p.m. After the picnic meal, there will be discussion and planning for the Mushroom Festival. Volumes I and II of the Cemetery Books and the 2012 Historical Calendars are now available.
4-H Summer Camp
It’s time to register for 4-H summer camp. This year’s theme is “Fantastic Summer Knights.” Estill County will be going to camp June 25-28. Any child that will be between ages 9-14 can attend 4-H Camp. Please stop by the Estill County Extension Office for an application. The deadline to register is April 16. Movie Nights at Estill County Public Library
Estill County Public Library will start showing movies on the first and third Friday of each month starting at 6 p.m. Although admission is free, ticket is required for entry. Mommie and Me Storytime
Mommie and Me Storytime for ages 2-5, will meet Wednesdays at 10 a.m., and Friday at 10:30 a.m. Come and bring your child or grandchild for a story, an art activity, and a snack.
Food Bank
The Estill County Community Food Bank needs to stock the shelves of the pantry. A collection container will be located in the Extension Office and other places where donations of non-perishable items (canned, boxed foods, etc.) may be dropped off. Please help support this worthy program to help the less fortunate.
Kentucky Department of Veterans Affairs
A Veterans Benefits Field Representative will be at the National Guard Armory, 335 Cow Creek Road, Ravenna, on the first Thursday of each month, from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. There will be assistance filing for Federal and State veterans benefits.
