Engineers went 1-1 last week
The Estill County Engineers played two games in the past week; the first was against district rival Lee County. The Engineers cruised to a victory 54-45. However in the second game the Engineers struggled and fell to Somerset, 56-52.
Against Lee County the Engineers were lead in points by 17; Trevor Jones and Colby Baber were second with 11. The Engineers had no problem with the Bobcats and maintained a steady lead from the very beginning.
Against Somerset, Brandon Morris lead the way again with 7 points. This game was close throughout, both teams passed the lead back and forth all game long. The Engineers were down by 5 with one minute remaining in the game. Somerset had the ball and the full court pressure by Estill caused two back to back turnovers, both of which resulted in baskets for the Engineers. After a time-out by Somerset, the Engineers were set in the full court press and nearly caused a turnover but the ball was last touched by an Estill player. Somerset inbounded the ball and Estill fouled quick sending Somerset to the line. They hit both free throws, giving them a 4 point lead with 5 seconds left in the game. Neither team would score again.
The Engineers will play Model on Jan. 16 at 7:30 p.m. Be sure to come support your Engineers!
