Robert Sheldon Williams Sr., 89
Robert Sheldon Williams Sr., 89, died Thursday, Dec. 22, 2011. He was born Jan. 22, 1922, a native of Irvine, the son of Robert Sheldon and Amanda Vaughn Williams. He was a World War II Army veteran, having served in Burma, China and India for three years in an Evacuation Hospital. He worked in sales most of his life. He had a great love for music, especially playing the guitar. He and wife Dorothy had a radio program in Lexington for years called the “Bob and Dot Show” where they sang old favorites. He worked in advertising for companies writing jingles and ads. He was a member of Boones Creek Baptist church in Lexington.
Survivors include his wife, Dorothy May Hall Williams; a daughter, Linda Grens; six grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren, four great-great-grandchildren; a niece; and a special sister-in-law.
Funeral services were held at Lewis Funeral Home with Bro. Ron Chaffins of Boones Creek Baptist Church in Lexington officiating. Burial was at Sunset Memorial Gardens in Irvine. There was a gun salute and Flag Presentation by the American Legion Post in Irvine. Pallbearers were Kirk Williams, Ryan Birchfield, R.B. Browning, Logan Browning, Jeff Jones and Wesley Redfern.

Steve Michael
Hines, Sr., 69

Steve Michael Hines, Sr., 69, of Riverview Road in Irvine, died Tuesday, Dec. 20, 2011, at the Compassionate Care Center, after a short illness. He was born Nov. 9, 1944, in Indianapolis, Ind., and was the son of the late J.B. and Lucille Hines Gumm. He was a sawmill worker and was a member of the Green Pastures Worship Center. He was also a member of the American Legion. He had lived in Estill County most of his life. He was preceded in death by his wife, Kathy Collett Hines.
Survivors include three daughters, Alicia Hines, Kimberly Murphy, and Melissa Pearl Norton, all of Estill County; a son, Steve Hines, Jr., of Estill County; four sisters, Linda Sparks, Darlene Sparks and Phyllis Tipton, all of Estill County, and Charlene Rogers of Berea; a brother, Robert Gumm of New Mexico; nine grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Memorial services were conducted Friday, Dec. 23, 2011, at the Green Pastures Worship Center. Warren F. Toler Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
Ricky Darrell Lewis, 45
Ricky Darrell Lewis, 45, of Crestview Court in Irvine, died Tuesday, Dec. 20, 2011, at the University of Kentucky Medical Center. He was born Sept. 23, 1966, in Madison County and was the son of Patricia Ann Puckett Lewis and the late Donald Lohris Lewis. He was a farmer and had lived in Estill County all of his life.
Survivors, in addition to his mother, include a daughter, Jewell Ann Richardson of Winchester; a son, Ricky Richardson, also of Winchester; and two brothers, Donald Lewis, Jr., and Timothy Lewis, both of Estill County.
Funeral services were conducted Wednesday, Dec. 21, 2011, at the Warren F. Toler Funeral Home Chapel by Bro. Jerry Rose.

Bessie Curtis Witt, 90
Bessie Curtis Witt, 90, of Lexington, widow of Robert P. Witt, died Tuesday, Dec. 20, 2011, in Irvine. She was a member of the Hill N’ Dale Christian Church, and a homemaker. She was a native of Powell County, born Jan. 17, 1921, a daughter of the late Lennie and Rosa Larison Curtis. She was preceded in death by her husband of 33 years, Robert; a sister, Margaret Snowden, and four brothers, Ernest, Vernon, Verlon, and Charles Curtis.
Survivors include a daughter, Bobbie Witt Wiseman; a son, Larry D. and wife, Betty Witt; three grandchildren, Cindy Reynolds, Julie W. Rulon, and Larry D. Witt II; three great-grandchildren, Jaclyn Reynolds, Tabor and Grayson Rulon; a great-great grandchild, Brooklyn Mosley; two sisters, Frances Curtis, and Laura Combs.
Services were held Thursday, Dec. 22, 2011, at Lewis Funeral Home, with Rev. Mark Pearson officiating. Burial was at Sunset Memorial Gardens. Pallbearers were Billy Reynolds, Barron Rulon, Abie Lewis, Robert Bramlett, Robert Durbin, and Phillip Bramlett. Honorary pallbearer was Howard Calmes.

Price Junior Jones, 86
Price Junior Jones, 86, widower of Reva Wiseman Jones, died Dec. 13, 2011, at his daughters home in Lexington, after a long illness. He was a retired employee of Continental Telephone Company, serving as a lineman and installer for over thirty years. He was a member of the White Oak Church of God, and  U.S. Army veteran, serving in France, during World War II. He was a native of Estill County, born Nov. 18, 1925, a son of the late John and Edith Tipton Jones. He was preceded in death by his wife of 59 years, Reva Wiseman Jones; infant son, Price Daniel Jones; and siblings, Arthur Jones, Ortha Jones, Glenn Jones, Hasteen Golden, and Brenda Rogers.
Survivors include two daughters, Wanda and husband, Edmon Chaney, and Emma Jean and husband, Frank Vanderpool; three grandchildren, Pryce Edward Chaney, Angela Jones, and Frank David Vanderpool; two great-grandchildren, Taylor Rashay Jones, and Zachary Scott Jones; a step-grandson, Tyler Jones; and siblings, Elbert Jones, Carlie Jones, Ella May Adams, and Emma Arthur.
Services were held Saturday, Dec. 17, 2011, at Lewis Funeral Home with Bro. Glendon Woosley officiating. Burial was at the Oakdale Cemetery. Pallbearers were Columbus Bailey, Mark Worrell, Bud Freeman, Bill Rogers, David Vanderpool, and Tony Williams. Honorary pallbearers were Dick Bailey, Elmo Newton, Elbert Jones, Ronnie Riddell, Eddie Chaney, Edmon Chaney and Frank Vanderpool.

Christine Winkler Thomas, 97
Christine Winkler Thomas, 97, widow of Everett Thomas, died Sunday, Dec. 11, 2011, after a short illness. She was a retired employee of the Carhartt Company, a member of the Crooked Creek Christian Church, and a native of Estill County. She was born Dec. 7, 1914, a daughter of the late Anse and Ninn Arvin Winkler. She was preceded in death by her husband of 66 years, Everett Thomas and an infant sister, Martha Helen Winkler.
Survivors include a daughter, Ruth Ann Thomas; a sister, Daisy and husband, Paul Tuttle; nieces and nephews, Mike Tuttle and John Paul and wife, Hope Tuttle, Connie Sarris, Brenda Gayle Creeden, and Fred Thomas; two great nieces and nephews; two great-great nieces and a great-great nephew.
Services were held Wednesday, Dec. 14, 2011, at the Crooked Creek Christian Church with Bro. Otis Clark, Bro. Leo Crowe, and Bro. Darrell Estes officiating. Burial was at the West Irvine Cemetery. Pallbearers were John Isfort, Ricky Jenkins, Scotty Winkler, Jr., Donnie Arvin, Glynn Winkler, and Gene Arvin. Honorary pallbearers were Scotty Winkler, and Phillip Worrell.
