Donald Edward “Brandy” Brandenburg, 82, of Independence, died Monday, Dec. 5, 2011, at the St. Elizabeth Healthcare Center in Edgewood. He was born Sept. 15, 1929, in Estill County and was the son of the late Hargus and Lena Evans Brandenburg. He was a retired Region Director with Phillip Morris. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Middlesboro. He was a former member of the Middlesboro City Council and the Middlesboro School Board. He also enjoyed refereeing High School Football games and teaching in an Adult Reading Program. He was a member of the Kiwanis Club and the Stafford Masonic Lodge #562 at Fitchburg. He was preceded in death by his son, Michael Edward Brandenburg; two sisters, Norma Griffin and Winnie Hively; and two brothers, Buford and Blaine Brandenburg.
Survivors include his wife Kaye Moberly Brandenburg; a daughter, Donna Jean Brandenburg of Independence; and a sister, Emily Chipley of Lexington.
Funeral services were conducted Wednesday, Dec. 7, 2011, at the Warren F. Toler Funeral Home Chapel by Rev. Warren Toler. Burial was at the Moberly Cemetery. Pallbearers were Wade Bowling, Bill Marcum, Farrell McIntosh, Eugene Bush, Richard Snowden, and Guy Strong.
