Estill County Community Chorus
The Estill County Community Chorus will have their Christmas concert Friday, Dec. 2, with the ECHS Jazz Band at 7 p.m., at Calvary Baptist in West Irvine. Also, Jeremy Michael will present piano music Sunday, Dec. 4, at 3 p.m.

Will Wise Toy Drive
The family of Will Wise will sponsor a dance at East Kentucky Cheer Stars Gym at 33 Eades Drive Friday from 7-10 p.m. Todd Chaney Will be the DJ and concessions will be available. Admission is one unwrapped toy. All toys will be donated to Marcum & Wallace Memorial Hospital for children who will be patients there during the holidays and all year long.

New Beginnings
Foster Care

The Body of Christ Ministries Church, 5800 River Drive, with pastor Bill Wesley, and New Beginnings are hosting a foster care informational meeting Tuesday, Dec. 6, from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Carey Wesley and Harold Shifflett will be speaking as well as Ron Hamm, Training Director with New Beginnings. Elizabeth Witt Christmas Party

As has been the tradition for 31 years, children 12 and under are invited to the Elizabeth Witt Christmas Party Saturday, Dec. 3 at Irvine First Christian Church. The party will begin as soon as the Irvine-Ravenna Kiwanis Parade ends and Santa and Mrs. Claus arrive. The parade is at 10 a.m. and the party will start at approximately 10:45 a.m.

West Irvine Elementary
West Irvine Elementary would like to invite all families of first and second grade students to Christmas Dinner on Dec. 8. First grade lunch will begin at 10:30 a.m. Second grade lunch will begin at 11 a.m.

American Legion Ladies’ Auxiliary
The American Legion Post 79 Ladies’ Auxiliary will have a spaghetti supper for members and their guests Dec. 3, at 5 p.m. A dance will follow supper with entertainment by Josh Logan.

Mommie and Me Storytime
Mommie and Me Storytime for ages 2 -5, will meet Wednesdays at 10 a.m., and Friday at 10:30 a.m. Come and bring your child or grandhchild for a story, an art activity, and a snack.

Compassionate
Friends Candle Lighting Ceremony

The Compassionate Friends Worldwide Candle Lighting ceremony will be Sunday, Dec. 11, starting at 6:30 p.m., at Marcum & Wallace Hospital in the Mercy Room. This ceremony is to commemorate and honor children, siblings, and grandchildren of all ages who have died from any cause.

Christmas
Spirit at Irvinton

Christmas Spirit at Irvinton, 345 Lancaster Avenue, Richmond, Saturday, Dec. 10, 7 to 9 p.m., Sunday, Dec. 11, 1 to 4 p.m. Adults – $5, Seniors – $2, Children 6-12 – $2, children under 5 are free. Swing into
Christmas with
the EHS Jazz Band

The Estill County Chamber of Commerce presents “Swing into Christmas with the ECHS Jazz Band” on Friday, Dec. 16 at 6 p.m. General admission, bleacher seating is $1, tables that seat six are $30. Prizes will be given for the three best decorated tables. Judging begins at 6:45 and the band will start playing at 7 p.m. Table sponsors can bring their own refreshments or purchase them at the concession stand. Mt. Carmel
Christian Church

Mt. Carmel Christian Church in Ravenna, will have their Thanksgiving/Christmas Dinner after their morning worship service Sunday, Dec. 11. Worship begins at 11 a.m. Everyone is invited to attend.

St. Elizabeth Church
St. Elizabeth Church will have their basement sale Wednesday, Dec. 1, from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. There will be clothing for all the family, household items, furniture, books, Christmas items and much more. Sister Mary David and Sister Andrew will be visiting at the sale from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m.
The Estill County Historical and Genealogical Society
The Estill County Historical and Genealogical Society will meet on Tuesday, Dec. 6, at the Museum at 6 p.m., for the Christmas potluck. There will be a silent auction. Volume I of the Cemetery Books is available at the Museum on Saturdays.

Toys for Tots
Names are being taken for participation in the 2011 Marine Reserve Toys for Tots program at Ravenna Police Department. Participation sheets must be submitted, and can be picked up at the police department Monday through Friday until Dec. 15. You must also bring  a birth certificate for each child and a utility bill for address verification. No names will be taken after the deadline. Children between the ages of birth to 15 years are eligible to participate. For more information call Chief Ken White at 723-3332.

West Irvine
Elementary Families

Attention West Irvine Elementary Families: Interested in attending dinners, parties, field trips or other school events? West Irvine Elementary will host two sessions for Confidentiality Training Thursday, Dec. 8, at 10 a.m. and 10:30 a.m. at school. All attendees will have a Background Check as well.

The Kiwanis Club
The Kiwanis Club continues to seek floats and other entrants for the Kiwanis Christmas Parade on Saturday, Dec. 3, beginning at 10 a.m. in Ravenna and will end at Estill Springs Elementary School. Any church or group who would enter a unit in the parade can contact Richard Snowden at 723-2135 or Tom Bonny at 723-5694. Prizes for the best floats will be presented by the Kiwanis Club. Entrants must be at Fifth Street in Ravenna at 9:15 a.m  Saturday.

Estill County Adult Learning Center
The staff and teachers at the Estill County Adult Learning Center, 200 Wallace Circle, are available five days a week to help with preparation for the GED test which is administered monthly at the Estill County Board of Administration. There is no cost for classes and pre-trest study assistance. Students can work at his/her own pace and attend classes during day and evening hours. Confidentiality & Volunteer Training Dates 2011-12
School confidentiality/volunteer training will be held on Tuesday Dec. 13, at 10 a.m. and 5 p.m., at the Estill County Board of Education Central Office. This will be the only opportunity to receive the training before school Christmas events. Preregistration is required by calling 723-2181, extension 2226.

Veterans Benefits Rep
A Veterans Benefits Field Representative will be at the National Guard Armory, 335 Cow Creek Road, Ravenna, on Thursday, Dec. 8. The hours are from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. Veterans and their dependents will receive assistance filing for Federal and State veterans benefits. This service is provided free of charge by the Kentucky Department of Veterans Affairs. To apply, veterans need to furnish copies of pertinent documentation to verify eligibility. For further information, please call toll free within KY 1-866-376-0308 to speak with a Veterans Benefits Field Representative.

Food Bank
The Estill County  Community Food Bank needs to stock the shelves of the pantry. A collection container will be located in the Extension Office and other places where donations of non-perishable items (canned, boxed foods, etc.) may be dropped off. Please help support this worthy program to help the less fortunate.

Salvation Army
Salvation Army Red Kettles will be at Price Less Foods, Save A Lot, and Stop & Shop on the first three Saturdays in December. Members of the Irvine-Ravenna Kiwanis Club, including the Kiwanis Key Club from Estill County High School, along with other community volunteers will accept donations each Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Volunteers to ring bells are still needed. If you would like to volunteer for two hours on one of those Saturdays, please call Steve Garrett at 723-3049.
