Evelyn Curtis, 71
Evelyn Curtis, 71, of Broadway in Irvine, died Thursday, Oct. 13, 2011, at the Compassionate Care Center after a long illness. She was born May 25, 1940, in Irvine and was the daughter of the late Virgil and Mary Cole Riddell. She was a homemaker and a member of the White Oak Church of God. She had lived in Estill County all of her life. She was preceded in death by two sisters, Christine Rice and Gladys Baber; and a brother, Donald Riddell.
Survivors include her husband, Leon Curtis; two daughters, Tammy Young and husband, Gary of Irvine, and Christy Webb, also of Irvine; two sons, Terry Curtis and wife, Eppie of Irvine, and Donald Curtis of Irvine; four grandchildren, Heather Jones, Teresa Curtis, Michael Curtis, and Madison Webb; and two great-grandchildren, Chloe and Kailee Reed.
Funeral services were conducted Monday, Oct. 17, 2011, at the Warren F. Toler Funeral Home Chapel by Bro. David Watson and Bro. Larry Frymyer. Burial was at the Oakdale Cemetery. Pallbearers were Ronnie Rice, Ronnie Rice Jr., Richard Horn, Shawn Baber, David Owens, David Beckler, and Michael Curtis. Honorary pallbearers were Matt Anderson, Buzzy Hurst, Kendall Baber, and Larry Anderson.
Harold Dean
Carnes, 44
Harold Dean Carnes, 44, of Red Lick Road in Irvine, died Thursday, Oct. 13, 2011, at his home. He was born Nov. 9, 1966 in Sacramento, Cal., and was the son of Mary E. Rainer Carnes and the late Wayne Edward Carnes. He was a mason tender and had lived in Estill County for the past 13 years.
Survivors include his wife, Wendy K. Riley Carnes; his mother, Mary E. Rainer Carnes of Dayton, Ohio; a daughter, Tasha Nicole Carnes of Irvine; a son, Jonathan Carnes and girlfriend, Crystal Wolfinbarger of Irvine; five sisters, Joyce Stork of Tenn., Tammy Brown, Linda Carnes, Becky Selby, and Michelle Groves, all of Ohio; a brother, Buck Carnes of Ohio; a grandchild, Jalen Dean Carnes; and several aunts, uncles and cousins.
Funeral services were conducted Saturday, Oct. 15, 2011, at the Warren F. Toler Funeral Home Chapel by Bro. Beverly Arvin.

Elizabeth Lynn Henry, 31, of Glory Street in Irvine, died Thursday, Oct. 13, 2011, at her home. She was born April 14, 1980, in Tampa, Fla., and was the daughter of Libby Lynn Graves Walters and the late Clell Walters. She was a homemaker and a former student at the Bluegrass Community Technical College. She attended the Ark of Mercy Church of God and the Lighthouse Church of God. She had lived in Estill County most of her life. She was preceded in death by a sister, Heather Bonny Walters.
Survivors include her husband, Robert Lynn Henry; her son, Robert Lynn Henry II of Irvine; her mother, Libby Lynn Graves Walters of Irvine; three sisters, Loretta Fouch, Dottie Conners, and Crystal Goodman, all of Powell County; a brother, Clell Walters of Clark County; her mother-in-law, Sandra Broadbent of Lexington; her grandmother, Beth Graves of Lexington; several aunts, uncles and many other family and friends
Funeral services were conducted Sunday, Oct. 16, 2011, at the Warren F. Toler Funeral Home Chapel by Bro. Ryan Dotson. Burial was at the West Irvine Cemetery. Pallbearers were Darren Kelly, Roger Henry, Brian Profit, Charles Profit, Tim Jenkins, Joshua Profit,, and Joshua Henry. Honorary pallbearers were her brother and sisters.

Freeman Estes, 88
Anna Lou Freeman Estes, 88, of Cedar Grove Road in Irvine, died Monday, Oct. 10, 2011, at the Marcum & Wallace Memorial Hospital. She was born April 21, 1923, in Estill County and was the daughter of the late Willy and Geneva Richardson Freeman. She was a homemaker and a member of the Flatwoods Christian Church. She had lived in Estill County all of her life. She was preceded in death by her husband, Wilburn Estes; a son-in-law, Lohris Marcum; and two brothers, John Henry Freeman, and Ray Freeman.
Survivors include two daughters, Wanda Carol Lakes and husband, Delbert of Hillsboro, Mo., and Donna Faye Marcum of Waco; a son, William C. Estes and wife, Linda of Irvine; two sisters, Neffie Woosley, and Delilah Gay Strassner, both of Estill County; six grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and a great-great grandchild.
Funeral services were conducted Friday, Oct. 14, at the Warren F. Toler Funeral Home Chapel by Bro. Tim Jones. Burial was at the Sunset Memorial Gardens. Pallbearers were Gary Freeman, Sonny Woosley, Otis Freeman, Barry Lakes, Ricky Marcum, and Robbie Estes.
Frances Marie
Wilson Jones
Frances Marie Wilson Jones, of Sanford, Fla., wife of William, died Tuesday, Oct. 11, 2011, in an auto accident. She was a graduate of Estill County High School. She was preceded in death by her parents, William and Ethel Wilson; a daughter, Pamela; a sister, Jane Yeary; and two brothers, William Howard and Robert Lee.
She is survived by her husband, William; a son, David; a daughter, Freida, both of Sanford, Fla.; two sisters, Mary Fay Neikirk of Greenville, S.C., and Thelma Kelly of Lexington; and several grandchildren.
Burial was in Sanford, Fla.
Hazel Flynn
Harrison, 92
Hazel Flynn Harrison, 92, of Wagersville Road in Irvine, died Monday, Oct. 10, 2011, at her home following a short illness. She was born Sept. 15, 1919, in Estill County and was the daughter of the late George William and Louisa Richardson Flynn. She was a homemaker and attended the Church of Christ. She had lived in Estill County most of her life. She was preceded in death by her husband, McKinley Harrison; a son, Gerald Don Harrison; three sisters, Stella McKinney, Julia Mae Harris, and Violet Hall; two brothers, Jesse Clark Flynn and James Kermit Flynn; and a great-grandchild, Savannah Lynn Harrison.
Survivors include four grandchildren, Melanie Ann Thomas, Angelina McIntosh, Jeffery Todd Harrison, Danielle Lee Richardson; 11 great-grandchildren, Rachel Maki, Jacob Thomas, Megan Thomas, Ashley Smith, Jeremiah McIntosh, Joshua McIntosh, Trenton Tanner Harrison, Amanda Harrison, Landon Todd Harrison, Brandon Richardson and Nicholas Richardson; two great-great grandchildren, Alexander Zane Maki and Caleb Seth McIntosh-Smith.
Funeral services were conducted Thursday, Oct. 13, 2011, at the Warren F. Toler Funeral Home Chapel by Bro. Harold Driver and Bro. Tony Belcher. Burial was at the Harrison Cemetery. Pallbearers were Brian Bill, Jeremiah McIntosh, Joshua McIntosh, Isaac Smith, Tanner Harrison, Nicholas Richardson, and Brandon Richardson.
Jerry Wayne
Walters, 77
Jerry Wayne Walters, 77, of Cantrill Street, widower of Bettie Watson Walters, died Wednesday, Oct. 12, 2011. He was a native of Estill County, born Dec. 12, 1933, a son of the late Garnie and Fannie Hunt Walters. He was a retired employee of IBM, and enjoyed hunting and fishing. He was preceded in death by a sister, Pauline Ballard.
Survivors include two sons, Robert and James Ricky Walters; a daughter, Leshia and husband, Emery Griggs; three grandchildren, Steven and Kayla Walters, and Keegan Griggs; a great-grandchild, Gauge Arrowood; two brothers, Dobin and wife, Ruth Walters, and Bud and wife, Virginia Walters; and two sisters, Martha Fowler, and Ethel Stacy.
Services were held Saturday, Oct. 15, 2011, at Lewis Funeral Home with Bro. David Watson officiating. Burial was at the Tipton Cemetery.
Dean Chaney Wise, 88
Dean Chaney Wise, 88, of Winchester Road in Irvine, died Thursday, Oct. 6, 2011, at the Marcum & Wallace Memorial Hospital after a long illness. She was born March 8, 1923, in Estill County and was the daughter of the late Richard and Elizabeth Reece Chaney. She was a homemaker and member of the Ravenna Church of God. She had lived in Estill County all of her life. She was preceded in death by her husband, Wallace Ray Wise; a sister, Bessie Chaney; and five brothers, George, Marcus, Tracy, Morgan and Joe Chaney.
Survivors include a son, Glenn Ray Wise and wife, Betty of Estill County; a sister, Nellie G. Morris of Hamilton, Ohio; and two grandchildren, Jonathan Wise and Stephanie Wise.
Funeral services were conducted Wednesday, Oct. 12, 2011, at the Warren F. Toler Funeral Home Chapel by Bro. Linville Dunaway. Burial was at the Wise Cemetery. Pallbearers were Fred Rogers, Malvin Rogers, Gary Flannery, Stanley Durbin, Sonny Woosley, and Jimmy Wise.
