American Legion Post 79
American Legion Post 79 will be having a Commander’s Ball for members and guests, Saturday, Aug. 6, at 6 p.m. There will be a steak dinner and a dance afterward. Entertainment will be provided by Josh Logan.
5th Annual Summer Fun BBQ
Saturday, Aug. 13, 6-9 p.m., at Verlon Prewitt’s Farm. John Allen, Kathy Samples, Kirk Scott and Regina Robertson are sponsoring the annual event, which benefits Hospice Care Plus. Corn Festival
The 22nd Annual Stanton Corn Festival, will be held Saturday, Aug. 6, and Sunday, Aug. 7, in Stanton, at the Stanton Municipal Park, located off the Mountain Parkway at Exit 22. The musical concerts will be featured on MainStage and are free and open to the public. All craft exhibits are open on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m., and on Sunday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Youth and teen beauty pageants will be on Saturday, along with a 5-K Run. Spay and Neuter Project
The Estill County Spay and Neuter Project will be picking up pets at the old Fill Zone on River Drive in Irvine on Saturday, Aug. 13, and the second Saturday of each month between 9 and 9:30 a.m., transporting them to the Bourbon County Low Cost Spay and Neuter Clinic in Paris, and returning them between 7 and 8 p.m. that evening. Estill County Extension Office
Estill County Extension Office is hosting a yard sale to raise money for picnic tables for our outdoor classroom. The yard sale will be held on Friday, Aug. 5, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., and Saturday, Aug. 6, starting at 8 a.m., at 160 Riverview Rd (across from West Irvine Elementary).
Hospice Care Plus
On Saturday, Aug. 20, Hospice Care Plus will host a volunteer training at its Compassionate Care Center in Richmond. Once trained, volunteers can choose from a variety of roles in either direct patient and family care or as a special event or administrative volunteer. St. Elizabeth’s Basement Sale
St. Elizabeth’s at 322 Fifth Street in Ravenna, will have their basement sale Wednesday, Aug. 3, from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m., and Thursday, Aug. 4, from 8 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Find clothing for all the family, large and small, household items, jewelry, books, toys, home decor, framed pictures and other items.
Estill County Middle School
The ECMS regularly scheduled council meeting will be Tuesday, Aug. 9, at 4:30 p.m., in the school’s conference room. This meeting is open to the public.
The Farmers’ Market
The Farmers’ Market is now open on Tuesdays from 3 to 7 p.m., and on Fridays from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m., at the Fair Barn Pavilion.
Veterans Benefits Rep
A veterans benefits field representative will be at the National Guard Armory, 335 Cow Creek Road, Ravenna on the first Thursday of each month from 1:30 p.m. – 3:30 p.m. Veterans and their dependents will receive assistance filing for federal and state veterans benefits. The service is free. Veterans need to furnish copies of pertinent documentation to verify eligibility. For more information call 1-866-376-0308.
Food Bank
The Estill County Community Food Bank needs to stock the shelves of the pantry. A collection container will be located in the Extension Office and other places where donations of non-perishable items (canned, boxed foods, etc.) may be dropped off. Please help support this worthy program to help the less fortunate.
Mommie and Me Storytime
Mommie and Me Storytime for ages 2-5, will meet Wednesdays at 10 a.m., and Fridays at 10:30 a.m. Come and bring your child or grandchild for a story, an art activity, and a snack.
Awana Clubs
Come join us for Awana Clubs held on Sunday evenings from 5:30 to 7 p.m., at River Drive Christian Church. Awana is a program for 3 and 4 year olds thru 12th grade and includes fun, games, and friends as well as learning about the Bible, God and His Son, Jesus. Car Wash
There will be a free car wash Aug. 13, from 9 a.m. to 12 noon, at River Drive Christian Church to bring community awareness to our Awana Clubs program. Preregistration for Awana will be available as well.
