Delmas “Bill” Marcum, 66
Delmas “Bill” Marcum, 66, 809 Ellen Avenue, Mt. Sterling, husband of Angela Hall Marcum, died at his home Sunday, June 26, 2011. He was born Sept. 9, 1944, in Estill County. He was a retired construction worker.
Survivors include his wife, Angela Hall Marcum; a daughter, Shelley Brown; three brothers, Lonnie and wife, Delphia Marcum, Dewey and wife, Betty Marcum, and Orval and wife, Carolyn Marcum; four sisters, Lydia and husband Ted Patrick, Velma and husband Gayle Powell, Carol Marcum, Joyce and husband Claude Townsend; grandchildren, Derek and wife Rachel Brown, Bethany Brown, and Noah Brown; great-grandchilden, Colton and Elijah Brown.
Services were Thursday, June 30 at Wells Funeral Home, Stanton. Burial was at Halls Cemetery, Frames Branch Road, Clay City.
Grace Chamberlain Cox, 91
Grace Chamberlain Cox, 91, of South Irvine, widow of Roy Cox, died Monday, June 6, 2011, at her home. She was a native of Estill County, born Oct. 20, 1919, a daughter of the late Francis and Margaret Webb Chamberlain. She was a homemaker and a member of the Drip Rock Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by two sons, Darryl and Roy Cox; and two daughters, Cleta Richardson, and Virginia Sue Cox; three sisters, Lilla May Miller, Lucy Blevins, and Addie Miller; and one brother, David Chamberlain.
Survivors include three daughters, Wilma Richardson, Joyce Cox, and Ruth Harrison; a brother, Charlie Chamberlain; three sisters, Edna Spivey, Retha Alcorn, and Elsie Henry; 12 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and 17 great-great grandchildren.
Services were held Thursday, June 9, 2011, at Lewis Funeral Home, with Bro. Jerry Rose officiating. Burial was at the Richardson Cemetery at Drip Rock.
Orena Gum Flynn, 98
Orena Gum Flynn, 98, widow of Ralph W. Flynn, died Friday, July 1, 2011, at her residence. She was born Jan. 7, 1913 in Estill County, a daughter of the late Charley and Mamie Johnson Gum. She graduated from Irvine High, and the Perry Business School. She was also a licensed hair dresser. She married Ralph Flynn on June 30th, 1934 at the Ravenna Christian Church. They made their home at 607 Broadway, in Irvine, and were the owner/operators of Flynn’s Porter Paint Shop for 35 years. She was a member of the Four Season’s Garden Club and the Estill County Homemakers. She was a Kentucky Colonel. She was the most recognized Senior UK basketball fan. She had been a resident of Irvine Health Care Center for five years, and a resident of Morning Pointe in Richmond for three years.
Survivors include her son Charles D’Rhonda (Barbara) Flynn of Counce, Tenn.; a daughter Karen Wesly Flynn (Scotty) Fulton of Maysville; six grandchildren, Chiara Louann Fulton Harris of Georgetown, Linda Gail Fulton McKee of May’s Lick, Janet Flynn (Matt) Mulroy of Mephis, Tenn., Barry Burgin (Karen) Flynn of Santa Rosa Beach, Fla., Maurie Flynn (Rick) Cox of Memphis, Tenn., Lance Allen (Ellen) Flynn of Memphis,Tenn.; 11 great grandchildren, Jameson Scott Harris, Kyle Lee Williams, Mallory Mulroy, Nathan Mulroy, Mary Margaret Mulroy, Analise Flynn, Cailyn Flynn, Sean Flynn, Harper Cox, Lauren Flynn, and Katie Flynn; special friends Eileen Bailey of Irvine, Barbara Welch of Irvine, family of Morning Pointe, of Richmond.
Services were held Monday, July 4, 2011, at Ravenna Christian Church, at 2:00 PM with Bro. Tony White officiating. Burial was at the West Irvine Cemetery. Lewis Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
Clyde Holbrook, 92
Clyde Holbrook, 92, of Irvine, died Friday, June 24, 2011, at the Pattie A. Clay Regional Medical Center after a long illness. He was born August 27, 1918, in Jackson, and was the son of the late Harrison Holbrook and Meda Bach Holbrook. He was a retired employee of the L&N Railroad and was an Army veteran of WWII. He had lived in Estill County most of his life and was a member of the River Drive Christian Church. He was a member of the Irvine Masonic Lodge. He was preceded in death by two sisters, Edna Cole, and Ethel Bardill; three brothers, Dale, Jess, and Ralph Holbrook; one grandchild, Andrea Huggins; a step grandchild Ryan Ross.
Survivors include a daughter, Sheila Huggins and husband Jim of Frankfort; a son, Rick Holbrook and wife Mitzi of Irvine; a sister, Jewell Bushelman of Irvine; and a brother, Ray (Holbie) Holbrook also of Irvine; three grandchildren, James Richard Huggins, Richard Kyle Holbrook II, and Christopher L. Holbrook; a great-grandchild, Evan James Sinor Huggins; and a step-grandchild, Rana Ross.
Funeral services will be conducted Saturday, July 9, 2011, at 12 p.m., at the Warren F. Toler Funeral Home Chapel by Dr. Michael Currans. Friends may call after 11 a.m., Saturday until funeral time. Memorial donations to the church or charity of one’s choice.
Wilma Lee Moore, 52
Wilma Lee “Cindy” Moore, 52, Richmond, died June 25, 2011. The former owner of Newby Grocery and longtime paper carrier, she was the daughter of the late Kenneth and Barbara Sue “Popeye” Nayle Moore.
Survivors include an uncle, Bob Nayle and wife Suzanne, Richmond, a wealth of loving cousins, and a circle of devoted friends. A gathering to celebrate her life, love of nature, food and tie-dye will be held July 8 from 5-7 p.m. at Lake Reba, Richmond, Shelter C. Ruby Faye Smyth, 88
Ruby Faye Smyth, 88, of Richmond, and formerly of Estill Co.,widow of John Russell Smyth, died Thursday, June 30, 2011, at the Marcum Wallace Hospital in Irvine. She was born in Estill County March 15, 1923 to Clint and Fannie Mays Roberts. She was retired from Carhart Mfg. Company and Westinghouse. She was a member of Westside Christian Church and Irvine Order of the Eastern Star #357.She was preceded in death by four sisters; Ida Mae Freeman, Lois Nugent, Cora Wilson and Hazel Thomes.
Survivors include two sons, Bill Smyth (Brenda) Monroe, Ohio, and Michael Smyth (Jane), Richmond; five brothers, Clayton Roberts (Juanita), Lexington, Lloyd Roberts (Betty), South Irvine, Donald Roberts (Nancy) South Irvine, Paul Roberts (Charlotte) South Irvine, Wayne Roberts (Susie), Lexington; a sister, Dora Winkle (Leighton), Irvine; four grandchildren, Sharon Bowles (Joey), Jana Frey (Brian), Jennifer Smyth, Alan Smyth (Donna); 12 great-grandchildren; and one great-great grandchild.
Funeral services were conducted at Monday, July 4, 2011 at the Combs, Parsons & Collins Funeral Home, Richmond, with Bro. Mike Simpson officiating. Burial was at Sunset Memorial Gardens.
