David G. Tipton, 50, of Mishawaka, Ind., husband of Terry Ann Price Tipton, died Friday, Dec. 24, in his residence. He was born on Jan. 18, 1960, in Estill County, to the late Lester and Gladys (Gwin) Tipton. He was preceded in death by a beloved uncle, Jim. He was a fiber optics technician instructor, and was employed at Century Link. He was a veteran, and belonged to American Legion Post 308 in Osceola.
Survivors in addition to his wife are a sister, Vivian Tipton of Mishawaka; and four brothers, James D. Tipton of Troy, Ohio, John Tipton of Middletown, Ohio, Robert Tipton of Troy, Ohio, and Herbert Tipton of Irvine; five nieces and a nephew. Funeral services were Thursday, Dec. 30, in the Wright’s Funeral Home, 307 E. Center St., Dieterich, IL. Burial was at Bailey Cemetery, in Latona, IL. The HANLEY & Sons “Southwest Chapel” Funeral Home handled arrangements. Lawrence Mason Garrett, 75
Lawrence Mason Garrett, 75, of Geneva Avenue, husband of Peggy Bonny Garrett, died Saturday, Jan. 1, 2011. He was a retired electrical engineer who worked for Kentucky Utilities for 32 years. He was a veteran of the United States Army and taught at Estill High and in Dayton Ohio. A native of Estill County, he was born Feb. 2, 1935, the son of the late McKinnely and Anna J. Rice Garrett. He was a member of the Irvine First Christian Church where he was chairman of the board for two terms and was president of the Gideons of Estill County. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Robert G. and Phillip R. Garrett.
Survivors include his wife, Peggy Bonny Garrett; a daughter, Bonny Clouse Caudill; his grandchildren, Bonny Jean Caudill and William Patton Caudill Jr.; several nieces, nephews and a host of friends.
Funeral services were Tuesday, at 2 p.m. at Irvine First Christian Church with Pastor Jeff Garrett of Garland Texas and Bro. Greg Humpert officiating. Burial was at Richmond Cemetery. Pallbearers were Elders Joe Warren, Steve Garrett, Stephen Daugherty and Robert Sherrard. Honorary pallbearers were the deacons of First Christian Church, Donald Feltner, his brother, Dale Garrett, his nephews, John Garrett, Joey King, Gene King and Mark Witt.
Lillie Alcorn Doyle Osborne McCarty, 100
Lillie Alcorn Doyle Osborne McCarty, 100, a resident of the Irvine Health & Rehabilitation Center died Wednesday, Dec. 29, 2010, at the Center following a long illness. She was born May 30, 1910 in Jessamine County and was the dughter of the late James and Annie Alcorn. She was a homemaker and a member of the First Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husbands; Granville P. Doyle, Jake Osborne and Omer McCarty; and two sons, Clay and Leroy Doyle.
Survivors include two sons, Bradford Doyle and wife, Jan of Estill County and Bobby Doyle and wife, Gay of Sarasota, Fla.; three step-sons, Clyde Osborne of Estill County, Cecil Osborne of London, and Bobby Osborne of Alexandria; 10 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and special friends, Edward Campbell, Walter and Barbara Woosley.
Funeral services were conducted Friday, Dec. 31 at the Warren F. Toler Funeral Home Chapel by Bro. Chris Winkler. Burial was at the Maple Grove Cemetery. Pallbearers were Walter Scott Woosley, Walter Woosley, Kenny Embry, Dalvin Farthing, Herman Abney and Jimmy John Craig.
Virgil Tipton, 90
Virgil Tipton, 90, of Tipton Ridge, husband of Dorothy Wise Tipton, died Sunday in Richmond at the Compassionate Care Center. He was a United States Army veteran, of WWII. He was retired from Smyth Sawmill, and a member of the Mt. Carmel Christian Church. He was a native of Estill County, born Jan. 13, 1920, a son of the late Armster and Margaret Puckett Tipton. He was preceded in death by his brothers Eddie Lee, Beverly, Kenneth, and Harold; his sisters Cecil Abney and Eudell Gray.
Survivors include his wife of sixty-three years Dorothy Wise Tipton; his son David Tipton; sisters Alma Tipton and Maudie Gray; several nieces and nephews and host of friends.
Services were Wednesday, at Lewis Funeral Home with Bro. Art Marcum officiating. Burial was at the Crowe Cemetery.
Ruth Jones Horn, 80
Ruth Jones Horn, 80, of Cambridge Drive in Lexington, died Saturday, Jan. 1, 2011, at the Hospice Care Center in Lexington after a long illness. She was born August 9, 1930 in Muhlenberg County and was the daughter of the late Travis Faughn and Lois May Tooley Wilson. She was a retired secretary with the Estill County Board of Education. She was a member of the Ravenna Church of God and had lived in Estill County most of her life. She was preceded in death by her husband, Travis Horn; a daughter, Donna Louise Horn and a brother, John T. Jones.
Survivors include a daughter, Diana Lee Fowler of Richmond; three sons, Michael Travis Horn of Richmond and James Henry Horn and Jerry Lynn Horn, both of Tennessee; a brother, Larry Jones of Maryland; three grandchildren, Joshua Charles Travis Fowler, Darren Horn and Amy Horn Darnall; three great-grandchildren, Ellie Grace Darnall, James Travis Horn and Keira Jo Horn.
Funeral services were conducted Tuesday, Jan. 4 at the Warren F. Toler Funeral Home Chapel by Bro. David Watson. Burial was at the Sunset Memorial Gardens. Pallbearers were Joshua Fowler, Darren Horn, Don Clemmons, Stanley Trimble, Jeffery Horn and Chris Rawlins. Honorary pallbearers were Alton Flynn, Delvin Reese, Edsil Daniel and Marcus Eades.
Kenneth Dewayne Riddell, 74
Kenneth Dewayne Riddell, 74, of Pea Ridge Road, Irvine, died Friday, Dec. 31, 2010 at the Compassionate Care Center in Richmond after a long illness. He was born Oct. 5, 1936 in Estill County, the son of the late James and Faye Kirby Riddell. He was a carpenter and lived in Estill County all of his life. He attended the Pea Ridge Holiness Church. He was preceded in death by a son, Mark Edward Riddell and several brothers and sisters.
Survivors include his wife, Opal Scenters Riddell; a daughter, Shelly Yerber of Estill County; two sons, Billy Dewayne Riddell and Christopher Odell Riddell, both of Estill County; a sister, Louise Babb of Winchester; and two brothers, Cornell Riddell and Russell Riddell, both of Estill County; eight grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were conducted Monday, Jan. 3, 2011 at the Warren F. Toler Funeral Home Chapel by Bro. Beverly Arvin with burial at the Riddell Cemetery. Pallbearers were Dusty Riddell, Timothy Clapper, Chad Smith, Zack Clapper, Brad Smith, and Nicholas Clapper. Honorary pallbearer was Kevin Riddell.
