World Rabies Day
Sept. 28 is World Rabies Day. The Estill County Health Department urges all citizens to be responsible and vaccinate their pets and livestock against rabies. A simple rabies vaccination can save the life of your pet or loved one. In recognition of “World Rabies Day”, the health department will be sponsoring a 5k walk on Saturday, Oct. 23. We will be teaming up with Radon Awareness for a fun filled day. We are encouraging everyone to bring their dogs and walk for the causes. All dogs must be on a leash. Senior Parent/Student Night
Estill County High School will be hosting an informative meeting for senior parents and students on Thursday, Sept. 30 at 6:30 p.m. in the high school library. Information regarding college admissions, scholarships, financial aid and other senior year activities will be available.
The Estill County Community Chorus will practice every Thursday, at 7 p.m. at First Christian Church, Main Street. If you love to sing and would like to participate in the chorus, come to practice. Rehearsal will begin for the 2010 Christmas Concert.

Veterans Benefits Rep
A veterans benefits field representative will be at the National Guard Armory, 335 Cow Creek Road, Ravenna on the first Thursday of each month from 1-3:30 p.m. Veterans and their dependents will receive assistance filing for federal and state veterans benefits. The service is free. Veterans need to furnish copies of pertinent documentation to verify eligibility. For more information call 1-866-376-0308.
The Estill County Community Food Bank needs to stock the shelves of the pantry. A collection container will be located in the Extension Office and other places where donations of non-perishable items (canned, boxed foods, etc.) may be dropped off. Please help support this worthy program to help the less fortunate.
Mommie and Me
Mommie and Me Storytime groups will be every Wednesday at 10 a.m. and every Friday at 10:30 a.m. at the Esstill County Public Library. These groups are for children ages 2 through 5. Bring your child to the library for a story, an art activity, and a snack. Call 723-3030 for more information.
Car Seat Check
There will be a free car seat check at The Estill County Health Department on Saturday Sept. 25. It will be held from 10 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. There will be two car seat technicians on hand to check your car seat or answer any questions you may have about passenger safety. Rosses Creek Picnic
The Rosses Creek annual picnic will be held Sept. 25 at the old school building. Everyone is invited to attend. Bring a covered dish or more, a soft drink, and a lawn chair. We will have plenty of Gospel Singing and plenty of fun. If you have any questions contact Bill at (606) 723-2653.
The Estill County Historical and Genealogical Society will meet on Tuesday, Oct. 5, at the Estill County Library at 7 p.m. This meeting will be to plan for Saturday, Oct. 9, the annual “Old Time Day.” Again, this year at “Old Time Day”, there will be the hit and miss engines, various craft demonstrations, and soup beans and cornbread at the Estill County Research Museum on Broadway.
The Estill County Historical and Genealogical Society is making plans for 2011 Calendar. If anyone has group pictures or individual pictures, which could be considered for the calendar, please stop by the Estill County Research Museum on Broadway any Saturday between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. The final date for submission of pictures is Saturday, Oct. 23.
