Senior Parent/Student Night
Estill County High School will be hosting an informative meeting for senior parents and students on Thursday, Sept. 30 at 6:30 p.m. in the high school library. Information regarding college admissions, scholarships, financial aid and other senior year activities will be available.
The Estill County Community Food Bank needs to stock the shelves of the pantry. A collection container will be located in the Extension Office and other places where donations of non-perishable items (canned, boxed foods, etc.) may be dropped off. Please help support this worthy program to help the less fortunate.
Mommie and Me
Mommie and Me Storytime groups will be every Wednesday at 10 a.m. and every Friday at 10:30 a.m. These groups are for children ages 2 through 5. Bring your child to the library for a story, an art activity, and a snack. Call 723-3030 for more information.
Car Seat Check
There will be a free car seat check at The Estill County Health Department on Saturday Sept. 25. It will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. There will be two car seat technicians on hand to check your car seat or answer any questions you may have about passenger safety. Rosses Creek Picnic
The Rosses Creek annual picnic will be held Sept. 25 at the old school building. Everyone is invited to attend. Bring a covered dish or more, a soft drink, and a lawn chair. We will have plenty of gospel singing and plenty of fun. If you have any questions contact Bill at (606) 723-2653.
The Estill County Historical and Genealogical Society will meet on Tuesday, Oct. 5, at the Estill County Library at 7 p.m. This meeting will be to plan for Saturday, Oct.9, the annual “Old Time Day.” Again, this year, there will be the hit and miss engines, various craft demonstrations, and soup beans and cornbread at the society’s museum on Broadway. The Estill County Historical and Genealogical Society is making plans for 2011 calendar. If anyone has group pictures or individual pictures, which could be considered for the calendar, please stop by the Estill County Research Museum on Broadway any Saturday between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. The final date for submission of pictures is Saturday, Oct. 23, If there are any questions, please contact Florine Arthur at 723-3881.
Financial Peace Classes
Financial Peace Classes will be hosted in Estill County every Tuesday for 12 weeks beginning Sept. 21. The classes will continue through Dec. 17. The third annual Roy Jefferson Scrivner and Melinda Garrett Scrivner reunion will be held Saturday, Sept. 18 at the home of Dixie McQueen at 406 Park Avenue, Irvine. This year our theme will be “How Well Do You Know Your Ancestors?” Last year our theme was about collecting “Favorite Recipes” and creating recipe books. We plan to have the books available at this reunion for those who have requested them and hope to receive a small donation for each one to cover the cost of material and printing. More copies could be available at a later date. Those musically inclined are encouraged to bring their instruments for pickin’ and grinnin’. Anything for the young and young at heart such as corn hole, basketballs, etc., would be appreciated. All friends and family are invited to come and bring a covered dish. Lunch will be served at noon.
The Shifflet Reunion will be Saturday Sept. 18 at the Senior Citizens Building on Stacy Lane.
