Estill Springs Elementary will be having Back to School Night on July 29, from 4-7 pm. Students come and see your room and meet your teacher. Dinner will be served. Everyone is welcome.
South Irvine Preschool-Kindergarten Center will have Back to School Night on Aug. 2 from 5-6 p.m. for Preschool families and 6:30-7:30 for Kindergarten families. Students are invited to come see the classroom and meet your teacher! Food will be served. We look forward to seeing you.
Jesus Fest Meeting
A Jesus Fest meeting will be held Thursday, July 29 at 7 p.m. at the Christian Worship Center. If you are interested in helping, please attend this meeting.
Spina Bifida Association of Kentucky will host Ohio Valley Wrestling Saturday, Aug. 14 at 8 p.m. (doors open at 7 p.m.) at Madison County Fairgrounds. Adults advance $8; at the door $10; kids 12 and under $5.
Super Start Saturday
Due to a lack of funds and personal obligations, there will not be a Super Start Saturday this year according to Estill County Community Education Director Teresa Dawes. A steering and planning committee will be established so that the event can be brought back next year and be bigger and better than ever. Any individual, organization or church that would like to be a part of the committee can call Dawes at 723-2181.
4-H Charity Golf Scramble
The first annual Estill County 4-H Charity Golf Scramble will be on Friday, Aug. 13, at the Estill County Golf Course. The day’s event schedule is: Registration – 10-11 a.m.; Putting Contest – 10 a.m.-1:30 p.m.; Lunch – 11-12 p.m. and Tee Time will start at 12:30 p.m. Registration fees are $50 per player (includes donation, green fees, cart and lunch). The Estill County Historical and Genealogical Society will meet on Tuesday, Aug. 3, at 7 p.m. at the Estill County Library. Kenny Cole and Candie Rader will present information on various services avalable at the Estill County Health Department. The annual Back Porch Homecoming at the Estill County Historical Museum will be Thursday, July 29 through Saturday, July 31 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Battle of Richmond
The Battle of Richmond Annual Civil War re-enactment will be Saturday, Aug. 28 and Sunday, Aug. 29 at Richmond’s Battlefield Park, south of Richmond on U.S. 421. The new Battle of Richmond Visitors Center will be open in the newly renovated Rogers House at the intersection of US 25 and 421. Camps will open at 10 a.m. each day, with many events, demonstrations, living history presentations, and related talks scheduled throughout the day, with battle re-enactments at 2 p.m. each day. Children are encouraged to come with adults, but please leave our four legged friends at home. Pickin’ for Kids
A Bluegrass Concert will be held on Saturday, July 31 from 10 a.m. to 11 p.m. at the Laurel-London Optimist Complex in London. Admission is $10 advance and $12 at the gate. Featured performers will be Ralph Stanley II, the Moron Brothers, Mountain Connection and many more. Proceeds go to benefit the Needy Family Christmas Program. Nurse Aide Training
The community education program of Clark County schools is offering session of State Register Nurse Aide training: Saturday classes begin July 24 from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday and Thursday classes begin Aug. 23 and meet from 5-9 p.m. Rhonda Gilmore, R.N., is instructor for both classes. Classes will be held at the Clark County Area Technology Center, 650 Boone Ave., Winchester. Cost is $220 and textbooks are available at Bethany Book Room in Winchester. ECHS Class of 1974
The Estill County High School Class of 1974 will have a class get-together on Aug. 7, at the Cedar Village Restaurant at 6 p.m. We would really like everyone to attend. Estill County High School class of 1990 will have their 20 year reunion picnic Aug. 14 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Ravenna Veterans Memorial Park (Choo-Choo Park). Veterans Benefits Rep
A veterans benefits field representative will be at the National Guard Armory, 335 Cow Creek Road, Ravenna on the first Thursday of each month from 1-3:30 p.m. Veterans and their dependents will receive assistance filing for federal and state veterans benefits. The service is free. Veterans need to furnish copies of pertinent documentation to verify eligibility. For more information call 1-866-376-0308.
The Estill County Community Food Bank needs to stock the shelves of the pantry. A collection container will be located in the Extension Office and other places where donations of non-perishable items (canned, boxed foods, etc.) may be dropped off. Please help support this worthy program to help the less fortunate.
Mommie and Me
