The American Legion Post 79 will celebrate the Fourth of July with a cook out picnic, with hot dogs, etc. There will be games, horse shoes, corn hole, etc.

The Estill County Historical and Genealogical Society will meet on Tuesday, July 6 at the Estill County Library at 7 p.m. This will be a business meeting, and plans will be made for the annual Back Porch Homecoming at the Estill County Historical Museum, which is Friday, July 30 and Saturday, July 31. (If enough interest, in the Back Porch Homecoming, Thursday, July 29, the Estill County Historical Museum may be open.)

Highway 52 Fifty Mile Yard Sale
Don’t forget this weekend’s Sixth Annual Highway 52 Fifty Mile Yard Sale. On Friday and Saturday, people will visit from throughout Kentucky and beyond to see what has become a great tradition in our community. As usual, it runs from Jackson to the Estill-Madison line. If you haven’t yet done so, be sure to check your home for interesting things that might make for great sales items.
Civil War Roundtable
The bi-monthly meeting of the Madison County Civil War Roundtable will be Friday, July 16 at 6:30 p.m. at the Dinner Bell Restaurant just off I-75, Exit 76 in Berea. Noted historian and author Glen LaFantasie will give a lecture entitled “Remembering the Past at Gettysburg.” Reservations are necessary. The price of the buffet meal is $15. Teen Game Night
Two Teen Game Nights will be at Estill County Public Library during the month of July. Play games and pick up a teen reading log. Game nights will be held from 4 to 6 p.m. on July 9 and 22. Teen summer reading ends July 22 during our wrap up party. Don’t forget teens, for every three hours you read you can compete to win prizes and gift cards. Come on out and join in the fun.
Class of 1990
Estill County High School class of 1990 will have their 20 year reunion picnic Aug. 14 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Ravenna Veterans Memorial Park (Choo-Choo Park). The price for sandwich/chips/drink lunch is $7 per person to be paid at the registration table at the picnic. Everyone is welcome to bring a side dish or dessert to share. Veterans Benefits Rep
A veterans benefits field representative will be at the National Guard Armory, 335 Cow Creek Road, Ravenna on the first Thursday of each month from 1-3:30 p.m. Veterans and their dependents will receive assistance filing for federal and state veterans benefits. The service is free. Veterans need to furnish copies of pertinent documentation to verify eligibility. For more information call 1-866-376-0308.
The Estill County Community Food Bank needs to stock the shelves of the pantry. A collection container will be located in the Extension Office and other places where donations of non-perishable items (canned, boxed foods, etc.) may be dropped off. Please help support this worthy program to help the less fortunate.
