Jerry Chaney, 47

Jerry Wayne Chaney, 47, Barnes Mountain Road, Irvine, died Thursday, June 10, 2010, as the result of an automobile accident. He was born July 11, 1962 in Estill County, the son of Jerry and Sandra Sue Stamper Chaney. He was an employee of Novelis Corporation in Berea, and was a member of the Fitchburg Masonic Lodge. He was a member of the Old Time Baptist Church, and a member of the New River Line Band. He had lived in Estill County all of his life.

Survivors in addition to his father and mother include his wife Kimberly Von Cole Chaney; one daughter, Kimber Nicole Chaney of Estill County; one son, Jerry Von Chaney and wife Ashley of Estill County; one sister, Sondra Kay Riddell and husband Rob of Estill County; three brothers, Allan Ray Chaney and wife Dedra and Corey Glenn Chaney, both of Estill County, and Kevin J. Chaney and wife Barbara of Powell County; one granddaughter, Emmylia Grace Woolery; his father and mother-in-law Dewey and Geraldine Cole of Estill County.

Funeral services were conducted Sunday, June 13 at 2 p.m. at the Old Time Baptist Church by Bro. David Chaney and Bro. Chad Miller with burial at the Alcorn Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Chris Conrad, Jay Bingham, Ben Chaney, Bob Chaney, Josh Bingham, Alex Brewer, Jacob Chaney and Tyler Grace. Honorary pallbearers were his brothers and sister, sister-in-law, brother-in-law, aunts and uncles.


Annie Hall, 94

Annie Ellen Gillespie Hall, 94, of Watson Ridge Road, Ravenna, widow of Allie Hall, died Tuesday at her home after a long illness. She was a native of Estill County, born July 27, 1915, a daughter of the late Colis and Jane O’Conner Gillespie. She was a member of the Crossroads Community Church, and a Homemaker. She was preceded in death by her daughter Cynthia Hollon and two sons Lawton and Price Hall.

Survivors include a daughter Alice Estes of Ravenna; three sons Omer Hall, Allie Hall Jr. and Raymond Hall; one sister Mary Hollon; 28 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.

Funerals services were held Thursday at 2 p.m. at Lewis Funeral Home by Bro. Adrian McKinney with burial at the Cobbhill Cemetery.



Martin Rawlins, 81 

Martin Rawlins, 81, died Tuesday, June 1 at Irvine Health and Rehabilitation Center after a long illness. He was born July 1, 1928 in Estill County, a son of the late Hugh and Fannie Henry Rawlins. He was a member of the Christian faith and a retired construction worker. He was preceded in death by three sisters, Cubie Rawlins Horn, Viola Rawlins and Helen Hillon; and a brother, Hubert Rawlins.

Survivors include his daughter, Shirley Jo Rawlins of Miamisburg, Ohio; two sisters, Bethel Pendleton of Lexington and Della Smith; and several nieces and nephews, along with special friends Sharon Bradley and Mark Stevens.

Funeral services were conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday, in the Rawlins Cemetery at Sweet Lick by Bro. Danny Neal.


Jean Wells, 79

Thelma Jean Dozier Wells, 79, Elm Street, Ravenna, wife of Edward “Ed” Wells, died Thursday at the Compassionate Care Center in Richmond after a short illness. She was born July 29, 1930 in Estill County, a daughter of the late Joe and Ollie Horn Dozier. She was a member of Williams Memorial Baptist Church and a homemaker. She was preceded in death by one brother Randolph Dozier.

In addition to her husband of 55 years Ed, she is survived by  a daughter Betty Wells Hisle of Ravenna; a son Michael (Ramona) Wells, of Richmond; a brother Joe Dozier Jr. of Louisville; three grandchildren Kimberly Wells, Brandon Hisle, and Tiffany Hisle.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, at 2 p.m. at Lewis Funeral Home by Rev. Paul Hubbs with burial at the West Irvine Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Ray Whitaker, Ronnie Richardson, Charles Blevins, Sam Watson, Doots Muncie, and Sonny Muncie.

Honorary pallbearers were Tracy McQueen Sr., Dewain Riddle, A.D. Noland, Dwight Rogers, and Brandon Hisle.


Roger Floyd, 71

Roger Earl Floyd, 71, Whispering Woods Road, Irvine, died Sunday, June 13, 2010 at the Irvine Health and Rehabilitation Center after a long illness. He was born Oct. 21, 1938 in Estill County, the son of the late Earl W. and Mabel Wiseman Floyd. He was a retired farmer and had lived in Estill County all of his life.

Survivors include two sons, Gayle Floyd and wife Tonya, and Glenn Floyd, both of Irvine; one brother, Kenny Floyd and wife Shirley of Irvine; and one grandchild.

He was preceded in death by one son, Gary Floyd.

There will be no funeral services.
