Arts Council
Arts Council meets the third Tuesday of the month at the Estill County Library at 7 p.m. Our next meeting will be March 16.
Substance Abuse Policy Board
The Estill-Powell Agency for Substance Abuse Policy Board will hold a town hall meeting March 18 at 7 p.m at Estill High. The purpose of the meeting is to increase community awareness on the issue of underage drinking, identify how underage drinking affects the community and brainstorm possible solutions. The meeting will provide an opportunity for parents, teachers, officials, youth and other community members to voice their concerns and suggest ideas for preventing young people from using alcohol. There will be speakers and a panel discussion. The award winning Estill High “Keep It Real” video will be featured along with a community alcohol personality survey. The public is invited to attend.
Pancake Breakfast
The Irvine-Ravenna Kiwanis Club will have their Pancake Breakfast Saturday, March 20 from 7-11 a.m. at Estill Springs Elementary. Tickets are $5 per adult; $3 per child. Tickets may be purchased in advance from any Kiwanian.
Financial Peace Classes
Financial Peace Classes, using Dave Ramsey’s video and material will meet every Tuesday for 12 weeks April 13-July 6 from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at Rice Station Christian Church. Tree Seedling Give-A-Way
The Estill County Conservation District will have tree seedlings to give to landowners on Thursday, March 25 only, on a first come basis, as long as trees last. Seedlings to be given away are White Pine, Persimmon, Mulberry, Pecan, Eastern Redbud and Shellbark Hickory. Seedlings may be picked up at the Estill Cunty Conservation District Office, 1505 Richmond Road, Irvine, between the hours of 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Blood Drive
The Kentucky Blood Center will conduct a blood drive March 13 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the fellowship hall at First Christian Church, Main Street, Irvine.
Homeschool Enrichment Group
The Homeschool Enrichment Group will meet Wednesday, March 17 at 1:30 p.m. at the Estill County Public Library. Call Virginia Owens at 723-3030 for more information.
Library Book Sale
The Estill County Public Library will be holding their annual book sale in the month of April: Thursday, April 1, 12-7 p.m.; Friday, April 2, 9-7 p.m.; Saturday, April 3, 9-2 p.m. Please notice that this is a change from the usual book sale dates.
Attention Estill County Teens
The Estill County Public Library will be hosting their first Teen Game Night program on March 25 from 4-7 p.m. in the library meeting room. Games will include age appropriate Xbox 360 and Wii games as well as board games. Food and drinks will be provided. This program is for teens between the ages of 12 and 17. Call ahead to let us know you’re coming or just drop in.
Groups Needed to Clean Highways
Would your church, youth group, sport organization or civic organization like to earn extra money while keeping Estill County beautiful? We are currently making road assignments for 2010 in our Adopt-A-Road Program. All groups that have a participated in the past will also need to contact our office to let us know if you are still interested in participating. Hunter Safety Class
There will be a Hunter Safety Class (orange card) at the Estill County Fairgrounds. The 3-day class will be Thursday and Friday, March 25 and 26 from 6-9 p.m., and Saturday, March 27 from 9 a.m. to noon. There is no charge for this class. You must be at least 9 years old to take the class. Registration deadline is Wednesday, March 17. To register, or for more information, call the Estill County Extension Office at 606-723-4557.
Estill County Library
The Estill County Public Library announces that they now have more science fiction/fantasy books (Malazan Book of the Fallen and The Wheel of Time), and young adult/teen books (Seekers, Clique, Alex Rider, Reowall, Cirque du Freak, Uglies and Dead Is). Come in and check out the new collections.
ECHS Class of 2000

Veterans Benefits Rep
A veterans benefits field representative will be at the National Guard Armory, 335 Cow Creek Road, Ravenna on the first Thursday of each month from 1-3:30 p.m. Veterans and their dependents will receive assistance filing for federal and state veterans benefits. The service is free. Veterans need to furnish copies of pertinent documentation to verify eligibility. For more information call 1-866-376-0308.
Dulcimer Club
The Dulcimer Club will be meeting at 6 p.m. at the Conservation Office, 1505 Richmond Road, Irvine (next to the gun shop and down from the Burger Barn.)

Boy Scout Round Up
Boy Scout Troop 144 invites all 11 year old and older boys to come check out the Boy Scouts. Food Bank
The Estill County Community Food Bank needs to stock the shelves of the pantry. A collection container will be located in the Extension Office and other places where donations of non-perishable items (canned, boxed foods, etc.) may be dropped off. Please help support this worthy program to help the less fortunate.
Mommie and Me
Mommie and Me Storytime groups will be every Wednesday at 10 a.m. and every Friday at 10:30 a.m. These groups are for children ages 2 through 5. Bring your child to the library for a story, an art activity, and a snack. Call 723-3030 for more information.
