Dorothy Johnson, 87
Dorothy M. Richards Johnson, 87, widow of Edgar Johnson, died Monday, Feb. 15, 2010 at Irvine Health & Rehabilitation Center after a long illness. She was born in Estill County, a daughter of the late Lena Disponnette and Virgil Richards. She was preceded in death by a sister, Reva Snapp; and brothers, Billy and Lindsey Richards.
Survivors include her sister, Ollie Carney of Columbia, S.C.; three daughters, Helen (Garvin) Angell of Venice, Fla., Nellie Noland of LaFontaine, Ind. and Bettie (Wayne) Ballard of Lexington; six grandchildren, Steve Dozier, Debbie (Paul) Nelms, Frankie Noland, Tina Sheron, Roy Noland, Sheila (Jeff) Sams; and seven great-grandchildren, Chris Arnold, Michael Sheron, Heather Sheron, Jashua Noland, Aaron Noland, Mackaylin Noland, Shelby Sams and Emily Sams.
Funeral services were conducted Saturday, Feb. 20 at 11 a.m. at the Warren F. Toler Funeral Home with burial at the West Irvine Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Wayne Ballard, Jeff Sams, Bobbie Carney, Michael Wainscott, Stephen Goodlett and Dayne Fisher.
Charles Cox, 74
Charles D. Cox, 74, of Panola, husband of Ruby Bishop Cox, died Thursday afternoon at the Pattie A. Clay Regional Medical Center.
He was born in Estill County (Knob Lick) on May 9, 1935, son of the late Clyde and Imogene Chrisman Cox. He was a retired farmer and a member of the Central Kentucky Model A Restorers Club.
Survivors include his wife Ruby Bishop Cox; one daughter, Charlotte Cox Gover (Cecil); two grandchildren: Conor Clyde Gover and Laura Imogene Gover; an uncle, Elbert Burnam Cox; an aunt, Billie Chrisman; and several cousins.
Funeral services were conducted at 2:30 p.m. Sunday at the Combs, Parsons & Collins Funeral Home by Rev. James Chrisman and Rev. Phillip Ronk with burial at 10 a.m. Monday at the Richmond Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Leslie Rose, David Hamilton, Jerry Kelly, Kenton Brake, Powell Martin and Larry Cox. Honorary pallbearers were Freddie and Travis Crain, Steve and Ronnie Carr, Dwight Evans, Burnam Cox and the members of Central Kentucky Model A
Restorers Club.

Douglas Hobbs, 59
Douglas Hobbs, 59, Red Lick Road, Irvine, died Saturday, Feb. 13, 2010 at Marcum & Wallace Memorial Hospital after a short illness. He was born Nov. 27, 1950 in Jackson County, the son of Marie Dixon Hobbs and the late Herbert Hobbs. He was an employee of Estill Wood Products and had lived in Estill County the past 25 years. He was preceded in death by one daughter, Regina Marie Hobbs; and one sister, Eunice Hobbs.
Survivors include his wife JoAnn Cox Hobbs; one daughter, Amy Jo Hobbs of Estill County; one son, Douglas Scott Hobbs of Estill County; four sisters, Janice Flynn, Mildred Moore, Cheryl Embs and Anita Marcum, all of Estill County; two brothers, James Hobbs and Ricky Hobbs, both of Estill County.
Funeral services were conducted Wednesday, Feb. 17 at 11 a.m. at the Warren F. Toler Funeral Home Chapel by Bro. Henry Johnson with burial at the Russell Flats Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Joey Harkins, James Hobbs, Ricky Hobbs, Ricky Hobbs Jr., Branden Hobbs, and Steven McDowell. Honorary pallbearers were Douglas Brandenburg, Thomas McDowell Jr., and Hurby Hobbs.
Chester Snowden, 79
Chester Snowden, 79, J.R. Furniture Road, Irvine, died Thursday, Feb. 11, 2010 at the Marcum & Wallace Memorial Hospital after a short illness. He was born Nov. 6, 1930 in Estill County, the son of the late Zella Marie Snowden. He was a retired Harold & Early employee and worked as a body technician until the day he died. He was a member of several restored car clubs and had lived in Estill County most of his life.
Survivors include his wife, Betty Faye Holbrook Snowden; two daughters, Tawnyah Denise Mingey and husband Todd of Nicholasville, and Melissa Dawn Williams and husband Terry of Richmond; two sons, Timothy Lee Snowden of Paint Lick and Jesse Glen Snowden and wife Jenny of Ravenna; a sister-in-law, Ruby Snowden of Richmond; eight specially loved grandchildren, Chad Snowden, Tyler Snowden, Tina Snowden, Darrel Snowden, Tashua Mingey and William Anthony Mingey, Tanner Mingey and Megan Williams; four great-grandchildren, Kaitlyn Marie Mingey, Callee Elizabeth Snowden, Austyn Niece and Trevyn Niece.
Funeral services were conducted Tuesday, Feb. 16 at 1 p.m. at the Warren F. Toler Funeral Home Chapel by Bro. Beverly Arvin and Bro. Butch Arvin with burial at the West Irvine Cemetery.

Velda Spivey, 72
Velda Plowman Spivey, 72, Walton Road, Irvine, died Saturday, Feb. 13, 2010 at Marcum & Wallace Memorial Hospital after a long illness. She was born March 6, 1927 in Estill County, the daughter of the late Clark and Minnie T. Hurley Plowman. She was a homemaker and attended the South Irvine Pentecostal Church. She had lived in Estill County all of her life.
Survivors include three daughters, Amy Jenkins, Ella White and Molly Hamm and husband Jeff, all of Estill County; two sons, Eddie Hall and wife Delores of Madison County, and Albert Hall and wife Tina of Estill County; four sisters, Marie Mannings and husband Junior of Tennessee, Jewell Hawkins of Winchester, Dolly Smallwood and husband Junior, and Beatrice Lancaster, both of Madison County; one brother, Jim Willie Plowman of Clark County; nine grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by one daughter, Bessie Hall; one son, Luther Hall; two sisters, Lorie Perkins and Pearl Scenters; and one brother, John Plowman.
Funeral services were conducted Thursday, Feb. 18 at 2 p.m. at the Warren F. Toler Funeral Home Chapel by Bro. Paul Arvin and Bro. Bill Wesley with burial at the Campbell Cemetery.

Ruby Jones, 67
Ruby Ray Jones, 67, West Cedar Grove Road, Irvine, died Saturday, Feb. 13, 2010 at Central Baptist Hospital after a short illness. She was born Jan. 7, 1943 in Lee County, the daughter of the late Owen and Etta Miller Dennis. She was a homemaker and had lived in Estill County most of her life. She was preceded in death by her husband, Melvin C. Jones; three sisters, Cleda Dennis, Wilma Adams and Illa Barnes; and three brothers, Robert Harold Dennis, Owen Junior Dennis and General Charles Dennis.
Survivors include five sons, Charlie Jones and wife Cyndi, David Jones and wife Melissa, Jimmy Jones, Robert Jones and Kenneth Jones, all of Irvine; three brothers, Walter Clay Dennis, Carl Edward Dennis and Billy Paul Dennis, all of Lee County; 15 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchlidren.
Funeral services were conducted Thursday, Feb. 18 at 11 a.m. at the Warren F. Toler Funeral Home Chapel by Bro. Terry Barnes with burial at the Barnes Cemetery.

Betty Baker, 61
Betty Lou Addington Baker, 61, Dark Hollow Road, Irvine, Monday, Feb. 5, 2010 at Central Baptist Hospital after a long illness, She was born April 14, 1948 in Pound, Va., the daughter of the late Otis and Dora Mullins Addington. She was a homemaker and attended the House of Prayer.
Survivors include her husband Loranzo Dow Baker II; four daughters, Sharon Angottie and Karen France, both of Detroit, Mich., Connie Whang of Richmond, and Summer Shephard of Estill County; one son, Loranzo Dow Baker III at home; two sisters, Faye Mullins of Jenkins, Lyle Ratliff of Indiana; one brother, Carl Addington of Jenkins; nine grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by one sister, Lillie Mae Ratliff; and two brothers, Clarence and John Addington.
Memorial services will be held at a later date.
Warren F. Toler Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
Catherine McMaine, 78
Catherine Bernice Stone McMaine, 78, Drowning Creek Ridge Road, Irvine, died Saturday, Feb. 20, 2010 at the Compassionate Care Center in Richmond after a long illness. She was born April 16, 1931 in Estill County, the daughter of the late Jim and Dovie Marcum Stone. She was retired from Phillips Electric. She had lived in Estill County all of her life and was a member of Providence Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband Eugene Gibbs McMaine; and a son, Steve McMaine.
Survivors include one son, Larry McMaine and wife Chris of Waco; one sister, Louise Wilson of Estill County; and four grandchildren, Raven Kropf and husband Jeff, Josh McMaine, Stevie McMaine and Grant McMaine.
Funeral services were conducted Tuesday, Feb. 23, 2010 at 11 a.m. at the Warren F. Toler Funeral Home Chapel by Bro. Bill VanWinkle with burial at West Irvine Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Dan Rose, James Chrisman, Greg Chrisman, Kenneth Webb and A.B. Patrick.
