The ECHS Academic Team traveled to Jackson County Jan. 28 to compete in the Governor’s Cup District Tournament. The team came away with the championship trophy. The team traveled to Lee County in February for the regional competition. The FPS team and 3 individuals advanced on to compete at state March 17-19.
Estill County High School also won the Hume Sportsmanship Award.
ECHS placed second in quick recall, but first in future problem solving.
Hunter Walters placed first overall in mathematics, and Dustin Warner placed third in mathematics.
Matthew Combs placed first in science, and Stephen McQueen placed fourth in science.
Hunter Walters placed fifth in social studies, and Meggie Wilson placed first in language arts. Chase Wainscott placed second in language arts, and Andrew Samples placed fifth in language arts.
Elizabeth Tipton and Chase Wainscott placed first and second, respectively, in arts and humanities.
Meggie Wilson placed first in composition, and Mimi Richardson placed third in composition.
In overall standings, Estill County placed first with a total of 55.5 points, Lee County placed second with 33.5 points, and Jackson County placed third with 30 points.
