Body Fitness Classes with Sister Loretta Spotilla
Body Fitness exercise classes with Sister Loretta Spotila, RN will begin January 29, at the Estill County Extension Office on Stacy Lane, the class will meet on Mondays and Wednesdays from 10 a.m. until 11 a.m., a $3 donation per class. The classes are helpful for persons with arthritis, asthma, and difficulty moving. The classes will have gentle exercise and movement. The classes help build strength and flexibility. Farmer’s Market Meeting and Produce Marketing Class
If you would like to learn more about how to market your produce, Cooperative Extension will have a learning session called “Market Signs That Work,” on Feb. 28 at 6:30 p.m. at the Estill County Extension office, 76 Golden Court, Irvine. This session will discuss ways to get people to your market and how to communicate effectively while they are there. Immediately after the learning session, the Estill County Farmer’s Market Association will have their February meeting. Hospital plans Ladies Night for Heart Health Awareness
Marcum & Wallace Hospital will sponsor a Ladies Night Out for Heart Health Awareness on Thursday, March 15, at 5:30 p.m. at Rice Station Christian Church (located at 1675 Rice Station Road in Irvine).
This free event will feature a presentation by Dr. Paula Hollingsworth, a cardiologist with Baptist Health Lexington. All ladies who attend will receive a free dinner, health education and giveaways.
Dr. Hollingsworth will discuss the signs, symptoms and prevention of heart attacks in women. According to the American Heart Association, heart disease is the number one killer of women; that’s approximately one woman every minute. 90 percent of women have one or more risk factors for developing heart disease.
“It’s important for women to be educated about heart disease,” said Dr. Paula Hollingsworth. “The symptoms of a heart attack and heart disease can be different in women versus men, and are often misunderstood.”

Irvine-Ravenna Woman’s Club
The Irvine-Ravenna Woman’s Club will meet Tuesday, February 27, at 5:30 p.m. at the Estill County Public Library. The club’s project will be filling eggs for the Egg Hunt for the Story Hour children. The lrvine-Ravenna Woman’s Club is a civic organization with the motto “Committed to Service”. It was organized in 1954 to serve the needs of the community through a broad range of projects and programs. Membership is open to all women who are interested in community service in an atmosphere of fellowship. Become a volunteer and make new friends. Tina Pasley is the club president.

The Kiwanis Club of Irvine-Ravenna will meet Thursday, February 22, 5:30 p.m., at Steam Engine Pizza. A devotional will be given by John Hale, pastor at Irvine United Methodist Church. Mountain Mushroom Festival
The 28th annual Mountain Mushroom Festival will be April 28-29. The festival committee is making plans and will meet Monday, February 26 at 7 pm in Irvine City Hall, 101 Chestnut Street. “Economic Impact of the 2017 Mountain Mushroom Festival” will be presented by Dr. James Maples, EKU professor. His students took surveys at last year’s festival and he will report the results. More volunteers and groups are needed and welcome to assist in the events and activities. The Mountain Mushroom Festival invites the community to get involved in the activities and events of the festival. Starry Time Storytime meets each Monday from 5 to 6 p.m. This storytime is designed for children that are already attending school and their families. It is a variation of our traditional storytime with activities for both the small and the tall. Ages 4 to 10 years is our usual group. Veterans Benefits Field Representative to be at Estill County Library
A Veterans Benefits Field Representative will be at the Estill County Library the first Thursday of each month. Veterans will be seen by appointment only. Veterans and their dependents will receive assistance filing for Federal and State veterans benefits. This service is provided free of charge by the Kentucky Department of Veterans Affairs.
