I saw a legislator that represents another county talking about a form of child abuse that some of us never think about.
I think we all know that smoking and drinking alcoholic beverages while pregnant aren’t good for the baby.
But one of the cruelist forms of child abuse is using drugs while pregnant.
This legislator wants to enact a law that will punish women for doing drugs while they are pregnant.
It can cause all kinds of problems for the child, including low birth weight and birth defects.
Nobody has more compassion for those who are addicted than I do. My heart goes out to those young people who try something once and become hooked.
Sometimes they do it to fit in, sometimes they do it to rebel.
Whatever the reason a person becomes addicted, it begins a lifetime struggle.
But when addiction puts others’ lives in danger, especially unborn babies and innocent children, then I think the parent should be held accountable.
I have seen the very real problems children have that are a result of fetal alcohol syndrome.
And I have been told that it is more dangerous than using some drugs.
But if methamphetamine is poison to the user, is it not poison to the unborn child, also?
I hope other legislators will give some thought to a law that will not only punish those who abuse substances while pregnant, but will also have a provision for helping the addicted child as well as the mother.
I am not about sports but this time of year I begin to get excited as the time approaches for the Daytona 500 that signals the start of the NASCAR Cup Racing Season.
I also enjoy watching the Super Bowl, but I don’t sit and watch it constantly.
I watch a little, change channels, watch something else, change back and watch a little more of the ball game.
I also always read while watching televison, no matter what is on.
That is also the way I watch UK basketball, or at least it was until I discovered John Wall.
I enjoy watching him almost as much as I enjoyed watching the 1978 Cats and Kyle Macy.
I guess you can call me a fair weather fan cause when they weren’t fun to watch I didn’t.
I never was like that when my son played baseball and basketball in school and in Little League.
Of course I wanted his team to win, but I wouldn’t have missed a game if they lost every one.
The same way with band. Winning is always more fun, but I kept watching my son and my daughter march if they never took home a trophy.
Well as long as the Cats keep playing well and executing all those fabulous plays, I will watch even if they lose.
But if they begin to bore me, then I will find something else to do when they play on television. That is just the way I am.
