Appalachian Culture Night features local ‘liars’
The Estill County Middle School and High School Academic Teams will host the sixth annual Appalachian Culture Night on Feb. 6, 2010. The event will begin at 6 p.m. in the middle school cafeteria and will feature a host of local “storytellers” who will compete in a contest for the biggest tall tale. Members of the audience will vote for the best liar.
Local liars expected to share their talent include Tom Bonny, Nell Williams, Skip Johnson, Todd Chaney, E.B. Samples, Joe Crawford and Teresa Dawes.
The Appalachian Culture Night audience will enjoy a dinner of barbeque, baked beans, cole slaw, chips and a variety of desserts. Students from the Academic Teams will serve our guests.
A silent auction will feature a variety of quality crafts and other products. Silent auction items include homemade goodies, pottery and a variety of baskets.
Tickets are $8 each and may be purchased at the door or from any academic team member. Proceeds will benefit the Estill County Middle School and High School Academic Teams. The funds are used to buy equipment and study supplies and to cover expenses when teams travel to state competition in March.
