A wreck on Main Street resulted in the arrest of two men who were charged with alcohol intoxication and multiple other violations.
On Friday, March 17, a 2001 Chevrolet Tracker driven by Zackery T. Jones was traveling north on Main Street when it crossed the center line and struck in the rear a parked 2005 Toyota Sienna owned by Steven Davis of Lexington.
Jones continued traveling on Main St. and drove up onto the sidewalk in front of the Estill County courthouse. While on the sidewalk, Jones’ vehicle struck a handicap parking sign and the rails along the stairs leading into the courthouse. Jones then drove back onto Main Street and hit a telephone pole at the corner of Main and Broadway Streets.
Elliot Muncy, 26, of 210 Ironworks Rd., a passenger in the vehicle, was first reported unconscious and unable to report the accident. He regained consciousness then fled the vehicle and began to run west, according to the arrest citation. Muncy was later caught by officers in the alley of 294 Main St. According to the police report, he smelled strongly of alcohol and appeared to be under the influence of alcohol.
When officers arrived on the scene, Jones was also not responsive at first in the driver’s seat, and he was slumped over the steering wheel. After several attempts to awaken him, Jones became responsive but began to fight and resist the officers. He lunged at Officer Lewis and Jones was tazed and pepper-sprayed in order to place him under restraint.
Jones was taken to Marcum and Wallace Memorial Hospital to be cleared to get a blood draw. According to the police report, Jones refused to give blood while at the hospital and declined to contact an attorney. He was lodged in the Estill County jail. While at the hospital, he admitted to taking Percocet. He was later served a bench warrant for failure to appear for a prior charge of operating on a suspended license.
Muncy was charged with alcohol intoxication, fleeing or evading on foot, leaving the scene of an accident, and failure to wear a seat belt.
Jones was charged with DUI, third offense, aggravated circumstance; third degree assault of a police officer; resisting arrest and driving under the influence under a suspended license (third offense).
